I wrote him suggesting that he impeach Bush for lying about the reasons for the invasion. His response:

"I share your concern with the present situation in Iraq, and I understand you are displeased with the President and believe he misled the nation. However, I remain confident in the military leadership and the Commander-in-Chief to achieve our mission. My family and I pray for a speedy end to this conflict so that our soldiers can return home safely.

From the first days of the war on terror, President Bush has said our nation would face periods of struggle. America and our allies took an important stand against terror and evil by freeing an oppressed people in Iraq. The threat to civilized society and order posed by Saddam has been removed. I will continue to monitor the situation in Iraq and support the President to overcome these challenges, because the cause of freedom and security is worth our struggle.

Your also suggested that Congress should begin the process of impeaching President Bush. As I did during the impeachment of President Clinton, I quote President Theodore Roosevelt who said, "No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man's permission when we require him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor." The President of the United States should be held to the highest standards. When President Clinton violated the laws of our country, I voted to impeach him. Be assured, I will hold the current President and his successors to the same standard."

He seems to think we invaded Iraq to free an oppressed people. He must have missed the part where bush says we are invading to find weapons of mass destruction.

If we are responsible to free oppressed people, I guess there are a lot more invasions to come. Oh boy. :grr:

Today I also got a response to my letter about closing the School of the Americas. He actually agreed and says he has consistently voted to close it.

But attach a copy of the Downing Street Minutes, highlighting the passages that pertain to Bush's lies (Republicans have short attention spans), & also a copy of the Constitution.

Tell them that we taxpayers have a right to know if Bush lied & that we would like a formal, televised congressional inquiry. If Bush is innocent (bwaaaaah!), he has nothing to hide. And, btw, remind him that we taxpayers pay for those hearing rooms.
