Major Lesson: Did anyone see Rumsfeld's remarks on Durbin today?
Even after Durbin apologized, Rumsfeld said it will be difficult to live with what he has said.

This is exactly why you should hold your ground. These bastards will kick you no matter what you do. And now Durbin has effectively neutralized himself by backing down.

You cannot defeat a bully by giving him his way.

(Yes, I know Rumsfeld is a bastard who should apologize for everything he's ever done. That's the point...)

1. The way Rumsfeld characterized it bothered me.
To paraphrase, "oh, we all say things we wish we could take back, blah blah blah". I hope some influential Dems read here occasionally, because I never want to hear how Rumsfeld judges Durbin-there IS NO comparison.

2. So does Rummy...
think the deaths of thousands of troops and Iraqis in a fraudulent war will be easy to live down?

3. Listen, they just don't want to "win" -
no matter what they have to do to "win."

That's not what they want, not entirely.

They want to crush everyone else - that means people like us.

Notice how they never seem to relish victories, but just keep spewing vitriol and rage? That's because they're not enjoying those victories because their opposition - us - are still alive.

They'd be happy, I think, if we were all dead. I'm serious.

And every time one of ours yields or offers a specious apology or backs down, they get stronger and we get weaker.

9. Zombies, I think
Don't zombies eat brains?

They'd like to eat our brains, I just know it.

12. I think I know that guy
He was in the National Guard, I was protesting Vietnam.

I put a flower in his rifle and smiled at him.

I said "Make love, not war."

He leaped on his buddy and ate his brains.

Yep, that's him.

6. Apologies are a sign of weakness and appeasment
Durbin is not up until 2008, so this will fade by then, but the lesson here is clear: apologizing only validates the rantings of the other side, while doing little to appease them; meanwhile you alienate the very supporters who defended you.

13. So let me get this straight...
...the unaccountable monstrous fucker that ordered the tortures and slayings and fabrications passes judgement on someone for correctly calling his and this entire administration out on it? I'm fucking outraged, I demand apologies from Rumsfeld and Rove. These people are sick, unamerican, anti-human trash.

14. The repukes are in attack mode and have been for too...
many years. They will never let up. There will attack until the other side capitulates and then continue to attack. They are right and everyone who disagrees with them are wrong for god is on their side.
