OTTAWA –Today, Bill Siksay, MP (Burnaby-Douglas), NDP Critic for Citizenship and Immigration and Canadian Human Rights, tabled a petition in the House of Commons urging the Canadian Government to grant sanctuary to American service men and women who object to the war in Iraq.
..
"Canada has clearly objected to the U.S. led war in Iraq, but that alone is not enough. We must not turn our backs on those who conscientiously oppose this war, and seek refuge here in Canada."
..
"The Geneva Conventions and international human rights laws are being flouted in the U.S. led war in Iraq. Canada must not be complicit in these actions. We must support the war resisters in their opposition to this war," said Siksay.
