U.N.: We Have Evidence of Gitmo Torture
Thursday, June 23, 2005

GENEVA — U.N. human rights experts said Thursday they have reliable accounts of detainees being tortured at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay (search), Cuba.

The experts also said Washington had not responded to their latest request to check on the conditions of terror suspects at the facility in eastern Cuba. That request was made in April.

U.S. officials so far have allowed only the International Committee of the Red Cross (search) to visit Guantanamo detainees. The U.N. human rights investigators have been trying to visit since 2002.

The ICRC keeps its findings confidential, reporting them solely to the detaining power, although some of the reports have been leaked by what the ICRC says were third parties.

The U.N. experts would be expected to make a public report.

2. It's a terrorist organization
just like Amnesty International, we can't listen to anything they say.

As Cheney said a few days ago, "most of these arguments are made by people who don't agree with our policies in the first place," conclusively and justifiably discrediting anything said against the US, which, as we all know, never does anything wrong.

5. And it's run by filthy Jews, too
...from their HQ at the Bildeberg compound. Or the Groom Lake AFB. Or deep under the frozen wastes of the Antarctic. I'm not sure which.

3. It's yet another plank in the case for truth
The wrong people pay attention and dismiss it.
But more and more of the right people are listening. The planks are growing into quite a platform from which to shout that the US is doing what it said it wouldn't.

drip, drip, drip....

I am with our good Senator from Alabama (R) Jeff Sessions

9. why the article today claiming the U.N. and the U.S. are swell on Iraq now
Kofi Annan:
<snip>
"The differences over the war are behind us now," he said. "We are all looking forward to the future."

Many European countries, as well as Mr. Annan, opposed the U.S.-led war that ousted Saddam Hussein in 2003. U.S. officials said yesterday they appreciated Mr. Annan's backing in Brussels.

"Kofi has been terrific," a senior U.S. official said. "He's been very supportive and his words today were very strong."

10. What's next?...
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 12:29 PM by Totally Committed
"UN finds Fat People at Weight Watchers Meeting" --- uh-duh.

Of course there's torture at Gitmo. It's just the Republicans who don't want anyone to believe it. And, they want Bolton at the UN to completely dismantle it so none of this messy truth keeps leaking out in the future.
