Will any of this aid in waking up middle-class Repubs/Conservatives?
The Supreme Court decisions of late--awarding big business and govt. over home owners...?

The new bankruptcy laws...?

It seems that there is great potential for the middle class and upper middle class to be hurt by these issues--many of which voted for this Administration--thinking it would protect them and their money....

Any thoughts on this? Anyone...?

1. We can hope.
W's approval is in the shitter right now, yet they still ocntinue to pursue an extremist, right-wing agenda. If the trend continues for the next 12-15 months, we could be looking at a pretty disgruntled populace for the 2006 midterms.

2. We need to consider that a lot of supposed 'b*sh supporters' are just
afraid to speak/think honestly.

Some food for thought in this thread's originator about what many may be thinking in America today. We need to work on how to deal with the people who just wanna go along to get along and hope they don't draw the attention of the brownshirts they know are running things.

3. Organized Labor used to stand in the gap between predatory...
...corporations and the little guy. Which is precisely why a critical part of the neocon agenda has been to gut collective bargaining.

If you're a union member, do everything you can to support your union. If you're not, pick one and send them a contribution, every so often. If you don't want to, or can't, give money, go to http://www.aflcio.org or http://www.seiu.org or any other union web site and find out how to get involved.

4. I seriously doubt any of those will make much of a difference.
The eminent domain decision won't affect enough people to matter.

The bankruptcy law? I'd bet most people would tell you it doesn't matter to them because THEY would never file bankruptcy. (Yes, I realize you never know, but most people feel that way.)

I think the things most would see affecting them personally would be SS changes, what is done (or not done) to fix the untrolled run away health care costs, the courts letting companies walk away from their defined pension plans.

5. Well, the SCOTUS ruling
will just put the focuc on the importance of having a conservative Justice nominated. This was a stupid ruling and it hurts the liberals more than it does the conservatives. Conservatives voted against this and I am sure we will be reminded of this at every chance given.

6. They won't care...
Until it effects them personally. Right now the minds of most conservatives, swing voters, well, voters who consider themselves swing...these issues won't effect them, cause the news is all about Iraq, people are afraid of the boogey man with the Ak-47 jumping out and killing them, they are so afraid, and unaware of what the hell is going on out there.

My wife argues politics at her job at walmart all the time, and the Bush supporters that infest her work place, throw rhetoric around like its going out of style, none of them have back up on any debate, except the same rhetoric you see on tv, and most of this Bush supporters didn't even watch the debates, or any news regarding Bush, or what his initiatives were/are. All they cared about was, Bush is a Good man, and he will keep us safe, but based that descision on nonsense, and they didn't even bother looking up the facts, or looking at another POV, its sad. They will never change, until the government, wants their house, or their dads house, it will never change, until it effects their lives personally. Later, Don.

7. Welcome to DU, petersond!
Sorry this is so late in coming--I hope you see this. :hi:

I feel for your wife. I've tried to talk to people like the ones she works with...it's impossible. They refuse to see varying perspectives. I honestly think it is impossible for them to grasp complex concepts...
