This story is the why of The Rove Offensive
GENEVA (AFP) - Washington has for the first time acknowledged to the United Nations that prisoners have been tortured at US detention centres in Guantanamo Bay, as well as Afghanistan and Iraq, a UN source said.

The acknowledgement was made in a report submitted to the UN Committee against Torture, said a member of the ten-person panel, speaking on on condition of anonymity.

"They are no longer trying to duck this, and have respected their obligation to inform the UN," the Committee member told AFP.

"They they will have to explain themselves (to the Committee). Nothing should be kept in the dark."

They knew it was coming. They wanted to muddy the waters.

13. I hope you're right, but I'm curious...
why you think he will resign? Thus far that simpleton has shown absolutely no indication of a conscious, nor any sense of shame. In fact, they demonstrate the opposite with every move they make.

would choose resignation over impeachment.

19. Nixon's approval ratings wallowed in the 20s for about a year
before he finally succumbed.

It's gotta get a whole lot worse for the Chimp before he'd ever have to go. A whole lot worse.

6. karl wants to be sure we talk about his
(intentional) comments on the Sunday shows instead of torture, delay, cunningham,DSM

he knows that what he said will attract a heap of attention but fade away.
no lasting damage.
better to distract us with this intentionally volatile statement.
we're taking the bait like we alwaysdo.

10. Exactly. And, so far, this under-the-radar story of the US admission...
...seems to be coming from European news agencies. As I watch CNN, I've heard not a single mention of it.

21. it might be more a case of
"making the case" for torture.

after all, it will be a few days before information and new visuals are released, and Rove has said we are weak when it comes to terrorism. He has said this days if not a week prior to the event. His comments would likely have been out of the media by then.

Torture to him is "getting tough" with terrorists. Rove knows there is no way to divert attention from what will be released. The recorded screams of a child being raped has nothing to divert from it in the civilized world.

Rove is trying his best to get us to justify the horror as "getting tough" with terrorists.

Torture is better than therapy, is really what he might be saying

12. You are so right!
Everytime the press picks up on something from this mis-administration, you gotta know that something else is going on and they use it to distract!

Something will probably be dumped at 7 pm again tonight so it becomes "old news" by Monday ...

The MSM just doesn't GET IT - that they are being used by the mis-administration to focus on DUMB things - Dean's comments, Durbin's comments, missing girl, missing boy scout, Rove's comments, etc., etc.

16. I figured it out 20 minutes after you did
It's an advance "softening up" for the new and gruesome details of these prisons. It's an excuse for acting "tough".

17. And, when the next wave of evidence of torture, ie,
video of children being tortured at Abu G. comes out in the next few weeks, they will try to say,"That's old news."

But, the sheeples are just about fed up, I think. This torture of children is just too evil.

Question is, Will the revolution begin, or not??

26. I've got a '60 Minutes' TIVO'd
The subject of the story was regarding the defense (or lack thereof) rights of the Guantanamo detainees. The independent military counsel assigned to defend the detainees spoke openly of torture as if it were a given. I did a spit take, rewound, and listened to it again - here was a member of the US military speaking directly to this subject with no hesitation. Did anyone else here catch that interview?

28. If you read the article it says the document
will not be made public until May of 2006. This is not going anywhere until then..that's awhile for Rove's remarks to have planning. These people can spin something real into nothing-this doesn't have any details. It's just a leak.

29. And the why of the Rove offensive is FEAR
It's an offensive all right..it's meant exactly as he said it. stop the war and the LIBERALS will all have us dead. It's meant to make the sheeple think they must continue to kill Iraqi's and sacrifice their own instead of dying themselves. Stop the war we all die!

The white house is spinning and explaining. They will continue to do the same old song and dance. They only have one STORY. FEAR. 9/11. That's it.

That's why he brought it up again..you don't think they can spin torture? A day at the park. What they can't spin is the WAR THAT IS A FAILURE and everybody knows it. The sheeple have caught on! On no-let's call the Dem's pussies and remind them they'd all be dead if they were in charge.
