Quick, get H2O Man! A possible Rove Attack / Plame connection!
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 12:44 PM by iconoclastic cat
Don't worry, I didn't come up with this on my own.

Anyway, there is this thread on dKos that discusses the motivation behind Rove's recent liberal-bashing comments, and someone brought up this very interesting point:

Two additions
(snip)
...one aspect that seems to have been missed in discussions of Rove's statement is the Plame investigation. Either, the court will announce Monday that it will hear the Miller/Cooper appeal in the Fall (in which case it will look like the Court is shilling for BushCo), or they'll announce they're not taking the appeal. Which means Cooper and Miller might be talking by mid-way through next week (or getting comfortable in their new jail cell). It may be Rove knows how SCOTUS is going to treat the appeal and anticipates some heat starting next week--or maybe even a perjury charge. If that's the case, then it makes perfect sense for him to launch all his attacks now (before they'd get undermined by his perjury indictment) or try to shore up GOP support for HIM (gives them practice defending him before the perjury charge comes out). Rove likely knows better than I what will happen in the case, but it may be playing a factor here.

Interesting, no? You know, one of the first things I read on DU was the first officially-named Plame Thread. Wouldn't it be funny if it all came full-circle to bite them?

On edit: Yes, I know that much, much, much more would have to happen to Bushco for "it all" to come back to bite them. This would be a nice place to start.

2. Is Rove the traitor that leaked Plame's NOC status?
How many people died as a result? Her task was to track world wide terrorists trying to acquire real WMD's.....what harm did this do to our country?

As Gerge HW Bush once publicly stated (and I paraphrase), "there is no greater criminal and no grater crime against this country than someone outing a NOC."

So, is Rove the traitor we all know he is?

8. I am under the impression
that Rove told the grand jury that he had only discussed it with reporters, including Matthews, after reading it in Novac's column. His claim is that he thought her status was "public knowledge" and thought he was free to discuss it with the media.

The Supreme Court is supposed to make a decision public very soon. A number of states have asked the court to clarify what the standards are. I have no faith in this court. However, the thought that Rove may be anticipating the court's action is very interesting.

They are doing a fluff, poor Judy, piece on CNN right now. The neo-con sweetheart is acting as pathetic as she can. The "toll on her family" etc.

11. If it was Rove that outed Plame...he could be tried under several
statutes...the most damning could be treason...:)

I wonder if bush will still uphold the DP if Rove faced execution?

Sure that is far from happening, but the possibility exists if Rove was the one that outed Plame...and who knows what type of maniacal scenario would come out of this WH? Personally, I think Novak should face charges for doing the deed...but he is such a Rep shill, the chances of him even being called on the carpet are virtually nil.

12. There is no question
that Rove called journalists such as Chris Matthews. One need go no further than the second paragraph of Joe Wilson's book to read: "In his signature staccato, Matthews was blunt: 'I just got off the phone with Karl Rove. He says, and I quote,"Wilson's wife is fair game." Before abruptly hanging up, Matthews added,'I will confirm that if asked.'"

13. Remember that Rove has made MANY enemies
All it takes is ONE to spill the beans. I hope and visualize the whole administration going down, but I will actually delight in seeing "Turd Blossom" face justice. I'd love to see him in an orange jumpsuit.

15. Yep.
He is the type of person who sows the seeds of his own destruction, by treating people with contempt. Life is funny that way, and it really doesn't matter if you work on the national level, or in a state position, or at a city agency. People like Rove end up making mistakes and having to pay their dues.

16. It appears you turned out to be correct.
The supreme court denied hearing all the appeals, and the final verdict is coming in.
