Will Bush hit bottom on June 30th when the next Abu Ghraib pics are out?
So, check it out: I've been blowing off everything that I need to do today, just hanging out on DU, and I had a thought about the impending release of the next round of Abu Ghraib horrors, which will supposedly happen on June 30th. For more on that, check out this link that DemoTex hunted down for me (thanks, man!).

As I was reading that article, I wondered, "Hey, how much of a hit did Bushco take in the polls when the original scandal broke in February of 2004?" Well, feast your eyes (remember, Saddam was caught on 12/13/2003, and Bushco hit a spike):

Am I reading this correctly? Almost a 10 point drop?

That's right, folks: The NeoCon Dream began on a wing and a prayer--but now the wing is on fire, and the prayer has been answered...by Cthulhu. Makes me want to learn "Monkey Gone to Heaven" on my guitar. Or something (TM).

1. Perhaps that's the reason for this flurry of distractions...
I just worry that this is a setup - like the next set of photos will be of soldiers playing Uno with detainees or something.

3. With these awful poll numbers and all this dissent on Iraq?
Somehow I think they would flog good news (esp. pics) at their earliest convenience rather than fight it out in court.

traveling out of town and then all-day meetings the rest of the week.

Thanks for the compliment, though!

I hope to start adding quite a bit more original content in the very near future. More along the lines of commentary with backing links.

12. Yeah. I'm guessing 11:59 PM on Thursday 6/30 (court deadline).
Many will start their holiday weekend on Friday. However, if these photos and videos are as bad as Hersh has indicated, they will be impossible for the MSM to ignore. These pictures could cast a pall over the Independence Day celebrations. After all, why are we celebrating if we condone torture?

14. Maybe al-Zarqawi will be defros...I mean, captured on 7/1!
You can bet your ass that they'll try to squelch it. But just wait until people get together with their families and THIS is brought up. Then they'll start talking about why Susan and Jerrod are over in Iraq at all. I'd hate to be Chimpy on July 5th!

8. I'm betting this will be yet another blow to the Bushco ship...
how big will depend on how the infotainment coporate media will treat it.

BTW - cool graph, however, your x-axis scale looks a little off...just fyi :)

11. I found the graph w/Google. Anyway, could this be 30-land for Bush's #'s?
That would be the death knell for the Repubs in 2006: they may still love Bush, but they'll take out their anger on the other Republicans unless the Republicans turn on Bush. That will be a sight to see.

I think Bush himself would have to shoot
their dogs for them to come to Jesus.

15. Even then, indeed. Bush can do no wrong, as far as fundies are concerned.
But they will take it out on congresscretins.

19. There was someone on CNN who said Rove chose to highlight
9/11 and terror because that's a tried and true way to energize the base. I actually think that's probably the real reason for his comments. Now, if he knows there's bad news commin' that's all the more reason to energize the base in advance so even if the polls are hit, it won't look TOO bad.

22. Hit bottom?
I think it'll mark a low to date, but there's still a LONG LONG ride ahead before bush hits bottom.

(Isn't showing anyone hitting bottom outlawed under the new cyber-porn rules?)

Can someone refresh my memory about what Tricky Dick's approval rating was the day he resigned?
