Rove's Strategy is Working - DSM Disappearing From MSM

Last week a Google News search on the words "Downing Street Memo" produced over 500 hits. AP had picked the story up, and it was being reported in newspapers all over the country. MSM was even beginning to use the "Impeach" word.

Today the same search produces few hits. NOT ONE hit is an MSM source. Independents and overseas publications like Dissident Voice, UrukNet and Collective Bellaciao are some of the few publications following up on the story. This won't cut it.

Forget Rove and his childish theatrics. We've got to put the focus back on the DSM and the Bush Cabal's criminal activities, right now!

It's disappearing because there have been no new angles to the story.
We need more leaks, or the story will die. Ignoring Rove does no good, either. We need to slap him around and pimp this story. But that will require a new lead.

6. When it comes to the news, most Americans have short attention spans...

Either the media plays on this or they contribute to it.

They've moved on to the other BIG stories - Cute well-to-do white girl missing in Aruba, Kids getting lost in the woods, and so on. If it ends in target, then that's an even bigger story for them to report on.

And as for political news, the DSM has fallen to the wayside as they make room for Durbin's, Rove's and other's recent comments that have caused "firestorms."

This is just my personal observation.

Because ultimately "hot" news will win out. All Rove did was cause his own party more grief, because not only did he validate liberal claims of the GOP politically abusing 9/11, but he alienated independents and moderate Republicans, as well. After this story becomes less attractive for some news media to cover, they will switch back to the Downing Street Memo - IF there is yet another hot development on the issue.

So... well... let's all pray for another hot development that will pull the attention back to the memos.

I just tried that search and got 2,050 results, the most recent 25 minutes ago from the Houston Chronicle. A lot of them are duplicates - wire service stories and other syndicated stories - but that's more hits than it got the last time I checked, on June 19, when it returned 1,820 results. So while that may have been the motive, it isn't working at the moment.

What I think more likely is that the speech was designed to obscure the poll results that came out this week, which are dismal for the administration in particular with respect to Iraq and Bush's handling of the "War on Terra^®," and that it may have been delivered on Thursday in particular to overshadow the news of the arrest warrants issued in Italy for 13 CIA agents, which also broke Thursday.
