Grilled Rumsfeld - A Video Diary From Today's MTP
This morning's Meet the Press featured Donald Rumsfeld as a guest. Tim Russert did an amazingly good job at questioning Rummy and I have posted a few select clips from this morning's show. I have posted a total of five video clips over at DEMbloggers.com

Rumsfeld was asked about several issues ranging from GITMO to Karl Rove's comments about liberals and 9/11.

1. Thanks, I haven't seen that one yet
I was just reading the faux transcript and it looks like even Wallace went after him a little bit about torture. First rums mis-identified the scope of the issue:

"There are some people who contend that it is torture -- tantamount to torture to keep people in without having a date when they can be released. I don't happen to agree with that."

Then he went on about how well the prisoners eat, but Wallace caught him up...

snip>
WALLACE: But,sir, I'm not asking about that. I'm asking about these specific cases, which I assume you've heard...
RUMSFELD: Every one have been investigated....
WALLACE: Would you regard the kinds of things that were alleged by ICRC and the FBI agent -- would you regard those as torture?
RUMSFELD: ...blah blah
WALLACE: Yes, but I'm not asking about that.
RUMSFELD: ...I'm telling you, though -- without telling them when they're going to get out. Do I think that's torture? No.
WALLACE: Do you think this is torture?
RUMSFELD: I think anyone who is beaten is -- call it what you want, it's a beating. And it shouldn't happen. And people have been instructed to treat people humanely. And to the extent it has happened, people have been punished and convicted in a court martial, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

2. Thank you for posting these
I'd given up on Russert and the rest of the Marshmallow Journalists in America today. It's nice to see an occasional clip of actual journalism. Ok Tim, now back to the boot licking...

3. Watching Rummy squirm is worth the price of admission!
We watched this in disbelief as Rummy was really starting to get nervous at the end of the interview. At one point he was even muttering under his breath, but too much ambient noise to hear. I'll have to listen to this and may cross-post to another thread started about this.

4. Thanks, Mark. I appreciate all your videos!
Two thoughts:

1. On the DSM, why does the media almost always focus only on the statement about the U.S. not having any post-war plans. Of course it's important, but the statement that jumps out the most is the one about *'s determination to attack Iraq without legal ground. Why are they ignoring that statement?!

2. IMHO, the attack on MoveOn by Rove, Rumsfeld, et al, is to undermine their recent effort to petition hundreds of thousands of signatures to get a hearing on the DSM. They're apparently very worried about it!

9. Liars Then, Liars Now
They're good at bullshit and manipulation and I fear sheeple will lighten up on them and stop saying they have second thoughts about BFEE occupation of Iraq.

10. The thing that strikes me as so weird....
is how this old buzzard has been able to hang on for so long. RumsFolly is obviously incompetent. He has been for a long time. I remember seeing a photo of him and Dick Cheney.

They were sitting together in President Gerald Ford's office. They were a lot younger then. They both had brown hair. But they both had a conniving look on their faces, like they were up to no good -- even back then.

By the way, Cheney was very involved with VietNam. I see a lot of parallels. So why didn't we ferret out the two fools, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, and get rid of them then?

Things haven't changed that much. :smoke:

12. I heard Rummy state on Meet the Press
this morning that: "War was everybody's last choice." Now, isn't that just a great big lie????

Maybe the "war" that is going on now was everybody's last choice, but the "invasion" was certainly his first choice.

13. at least he admits knowing about Rove's comments
when Sen. Clinton read him the quote at the hearing, he pretended not to know anything about it in typical Rummy cowardly fashion.

So tell me, does Russert really pin him down and make him squirm? I want to see him squirm.

21. He squirms. You have to wade through some softballs at the start
but it gets better. Like I said, seeing him fidget is worth the price of admission on this one.

22. On the subject of todays Meet the Press...
Isn't it about time someone clued Bono in on Bush, Satan and the true state of politics in the United States of America. It's incredibly sad to see someone so obviously deluded; Bush does not want permission from the the American people to provide more aid to Africa.
