Expert: Democrats in S.C. don't want to be linked to national chair

When National Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean visits Columbia on Wednesday, South Carolina's top Democratic elected official, Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum, won't be there.

"I had already, months ago, scheduled to be out of state," she said last week.

Florence Mayor Frank Willis, one of two announced Democratic candidates for governor in 2006, also has other plans.

Willis said he'll be touring Dillon, Marion and Williamsburg counties. "We're going to start early that morning and finish late that evening," he said.

The other Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Aiken Sen. Tommy Moore, couldn't be reached.

So who is Winthrop University political science professor Scott Huffmon and what qualifies him to speak has an 'expert' on Democratic Party politics?

This whole article is a fine example of the shabby journalism that we have to put up with now a days.

1. They don't want to get behind Howard Dean, the man the the majority

of the PUBLIC wanted for Chairman of the DNC, they need to either 1) find another party or; 2) get into another line of work.

These piss ant politicians think its all about what 'they' want. What policies 'they' think are right. Who 'they' want to support.

They need to go.

2. anytime Dean goes anywhere and someone important can't meet with him,

the corporate media report it as important Dems "distancing" themselves from Dean.

I remember when he want to Kansas, it was widely reported that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius "refused" to meet with him-- however, the truth was, she had plans that evening and apparently enjoyed having breakfast with him that morning.

They could tell the truth, but in an age of ultra-right wing lies, the truth almost always has a leftist cast to it.

3. The reporting is not the problem. That these Democratic leaders cannot

meet with their party's chairman because of "previous commitments" is the problem.

If they were Republicans and pulled that kind of trick they'd get kicked out of the party. I don't know what the Democratic Party can/will do about it, but it is a situation that needs to be addressed.

If local Democratic leaders are too busy to meet with the party chairman - they are TOO busy.

4. I agree with both viewpoints

The Democrats should make it a priority to support Dean if they are serious about winning Congress in 06. Even if you do not agree with all his viewpoints, he is the leader of the party.
On the other hand any slight by us real or imagined will be magnified a 1000 fold by the corporate owned media monopoly, as they would rather keep their Republican enablers in power.

5. Part of the article is ok, part is skewed. Contact info for SC Dems.

I contacted a friend there, and there are two articles from SC today just really exaggerating. I emailed them the articles, and urged them to stand up the media and the GOP who are doing this to them.

The media does this everywhere Dean goes, ahead of time. This is worse than usual. We need to tell them how we feel about it. Dean stayed with Gov. Sebellius in KS, yet the media said she did not meet with him. They had a large breakfast together as well. We need to stop them from doing this. It is divisive. One article does nothing but quote the GOP about Dean. Here it is:
