I'm seeing a trend
I've begun to notice in the larger political discussion a trend forming. "Liberals" are starting to get blamed for what will ultimately be the failure of Bush's war in Iraq. We are already hearing the "blame storming" starting. Rove is just the tip. I heard George Will suggest something similar. You also have the whole "aid and comfort" song and dance going on everywhere. If you point out it is failing, you are the cause for the failure. Because liberals don't "support" the war, we are going to lose it. Never mind of course that liberals advised against this war going in, and it was done anyway, unilaterally I might add. The Bush folks just don't want to take credit for this war anymore and they are looking for ways to place the blame on anyone else. I suspect, given their track record, that they will be successful as well.

1. Well, I'd like to give Americans the benefit....
of the doubt, that they recognize that since the repugs control virtually the entire government, that it has to be their fault. But I've made that mistake before....

8. I'm not so sure that's wise...
After the last election, my credo is: "Never underestimate the power of a very large group of stupid people."

3. Liberals must have immense power to do such damage w/o the WH, Congress
or Supreme Court. Who knew those passive tree-huggers could instill such fear in the Republican party?

And if the Republicans can't deal with Liberals - how do they expect to deal with the nut-case terrorists they keep warning us about? Isn't fighting a war difficult when the host country doesn't want you there?

I'm so sick the the RW spin. Sad thing is at least 25 - 30% of Americans will buy it!!

6. M. Moore and his mighty Palme d'Or have ruined our war effort.
If not for him, there would have been armor on the vehicles and all the explosives would have been secured......

4. It worked when the right blamed liberals for losing Vietnam.
It worked when then Nazis blamed the Jews for helping Germany lose WWI.

5. Iraq is Vietnam, not in cost, but in how they blame libs for the loss.
Vietnam was lost because the liberals and democrats wouldn't commit to winning the war and those protesters tied our government's hands and gave comfort to the enemy. We could have won if not for the liberals.

Repeat substituting Iraq. Moore is the new Fonda.

Iraq really is Vietnam redux, not in the length or cost, but in the excuses.

Expect to hear this same crap blaming liberals for losing Iraq (when, not if) for the next twenty years and the reason why the next idiot war has to be stuck with at all costs.

7. It's a pretty lame war plan
if opponents' criticism is enough to make it fail, it has some inherent flaws.

10. You are seeing the power of a well coordinated campaign
something the democrats have not been able to do in a while (except may be for SS and, even then, it was hard for some people to stay on message).

Let's see two different approaches.

- Durbin said something that could be arguable in the middle of something that is not at all arguable. Republicans change subject by focusing on the accessory. Democrats stop talking about the main subject (GITMO). .

- Rove says something that was arguable. Democrats start protesting without any attack line. Republicans attack again. Rove needed to be answered with an attack on their ability to protect us. It was NOT done and we let the advantage to the Republicans.

Results : republicans win on those two.
