Nelson (NE) and Wyden bought the Guantanamo Dog & Pony Show
and are satisfied that things have changed down there and nothing would be gained by closing it.

1. Didn't the Nazi's try this ploy with the concentration camps?
Didn't Abu Graeb have an "inspection" but the inspectors were only allowed into one area?

hmpf. And Isn't Wyden the one that Blair's son is going to be "interning with?" :eyes:

6. Blankets???
It's the middle of June! It's 100 degrees down there, I think blankets are the least of their worries right now.

9. Billy Wilder actually refer to this in the movie
Stalag 17. It gets a little colder in the Czech Republic than it does in Cuba, though, where the average low temperature in December and January is around 67 degrees, whereas in Prague it's around 25.

5. For the first time since November
I tuned in to MSNBC (sorry!) to get some reaction to the SCOTUS ruling on the Plame case. I watched an interview with 2 members of Congress that just got back from GITMO. They had nothing but kudos for the prison. The interviewer asked if they thought the 3-hour interrogation they witnessed was staged and they said "Oh no, when it was over, the prisoner got up and stretched!"

That's it, TV off again.

Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 10:59 PM by LightningFlash
Do these folks not know the meaning of the word "FASCISM" and thirteen degrees of torture, as just admitted in a classified report to the UNITED NATIONS Services committee?!???

These are NOT democrats!!! And Bill Nelson, if he is for real believing this, needs to do a press conference to explain WHY.

11. It was a Dem Congresswoman from (gulp) MY state!
I don't remember her name but she was explaining the conditions of the prison like it was a remodeled home. It was unbelievable. This visit was such a set-up, and they all fell for it.

10. If they get to send Duncan Hunter, we should get to send Ted Kennedy...
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 11:29 PM by Hippo_Tron
Ben Nelson isn't going to dissent with the administration on this issue, he shouldn't have been sent.

Not to mention the fact that I'm sure the visit was all a show. Not to over use the Nazi references, but they cleaned up the concentration camps when inspectors wanted to come and see them.

12. I really wonder what Durbin had to say!
And Kennedy needs to be over there too, they created this smokescreen to duck and cover.
