WA Post: "solid majority agree with Bush that U.S. must remain in Iraq"
Americans skeptical about claims on insurgents
Most support staying in Iraq, though, poll finds

By Richard Morin and Dan Balz, Washington Post

Updated: 10:29 p.m. ET June 27, 2005
As President Bush prepares to address the nation about Iraq tonight, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that most Americans do not believe the administration's claims that impressive gains are being made against the insurgency, but a clear majority is willing to keep U.S. forces there for an extended time to stabilize the country.

The survey found that only one in eight Americans currently favors an immediate pullout of U.S. forces, while a solid majority continues to agree with Bush that the United States must remain in Iraq until civil order is restored -- a goal that most of those surveyed acknowledge is, at best, several years away.

Amid broad skepticism about Bush's credibility and whether the war was worth the cost, there were some encouraging signs for the president. A narrow majority -- 52 percent -- currently believe that the war has contributed to the long-term security of the United States, a five-point increase from earlier this month.

The findings crystallize the challenges facing Bush this evening in his nationally televised address from Fort Bragg, N.C., an event the administration sees as a critical opportunity for the president to restate the case for his Iraq policies. The goal is to reinvigorate public support for a war that has grown unpopular over time and convince Americans the administration has a policy that will lead to success over time.

1. I still wonder....
regardless of the DSM, if they were fooling themselves, or if they were so caught up in (sh)it, that they really believed the crap they told the world.

Which is worse, a liar who doesn't know any better, or a deliberate liar? Conundrum...

7. You gotta be kidding.
They knew there was no provocation for the war.

They believed Saddam was so weakened that he would be a sitting duck for a quick war and an easy, splashy, well-publicized victory.

They were so smugly delusional that they also believed this was a John Wayne movie during World War II and we would be greeted as liberators like the guys who marched into Paris and got kissed. The historical facts that Iraqis are used to their own dictators but fight to the bloody hideous death against invaders was completely beyond their comprehension.

What you must always remember in dealing with BushCo: these are the same people who believed that the darkies were happy being slaves...because they smiled so much and sang a lot.

They only do polling for themselves now, so as to not let any dissent through.

4. Ugh
Out of that whole poll of over 30 questions, they find the one question where the American people agree with Bush (sort of) and plaster that onto the headlines. On just about every other question Bush and his Administration were absolutley hammered. Momentum is not on their side. As far as public opinion goes this country is about where America was in 1967. Six months from now, a majority will be demanding a pullout. It took some time to get a majority to admit the war was wrong. Now the task is to convince a majority to favor withdrawl.

6. Take
action to dispute 1 in 8. Make them show proof. Blow this up. Nothing like a major media fight for publicity.

8. Bu$h is winning the war on Terra!

Terra Firma is going to be dead for homo sapiens (or homo stultus) soon. The cockroaches are going to miss Twinkies, but will survive.

The war on terra in Iraq is at the TRILLION mark! China and Japan own 1/3 of the U$ of A, etc. And 52% still believe ... Don't think or cogitate do they, homo stultus!?!

9. That's because most Americans are very ignorant to what is really going on
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 02:26 AM by Lecky
People don't understand that we are the reason that there is so much violence going on over there.

There is going to have to be some education outreach by the MSM for Americans to fully understand the predicament we are in. The gov't would never allow that since they want us there as long as possible.

All we can do is continue to add pressure.

I found an informative site dedicated to FAQ regarding bringing our troops home from Iraq. Let me know what you think...

Campaign Iraq: Bring U.S. Troops Home

It helps answer some of those hard questions, offers solutions.
