If you haven't seen the latest Democratic Senate Policy Committee Hearing on Halliburton -- the FIFTH such hearing -- please try and do so. I guarantee that if the testimony of Bunny Greenhouse, Rory Mayberry, and Alan Waller and Gary Butters doesn't outrage you, the conspicuous absence of any REPUBLICANS will. (It's quite clear by now that the Republicans only pay attention to the Rule of Law when circumventing it or hiding from it.)
The video of Monday's hearing is online at
C-SPAN.
Kind folks, this is far more serious than the government-facilitated rip off of our tax dollars by a private corporation, which is infuriating enough. Halliburton's failures also directly impact the well-being of our troops. The danger they face every day in Iraq is being
compounded by Halliburton's greed and negligence.
I propose a letter/email/telephone campaign to Republican Senate Policy Chairman Jon Kyl. It's vitally important that we tell him exactly what we think of their unwillingness to support the best interests of our troops.

kyl.senate.gov/contact.cfm Here's my letter for ideas:
Senator Kyl,
As the Chairman of the Republican Senate Policy Committee, your lack of participation in the Oversight Hearings on Halliburton Overcharges in Iraq -- indeed, the total lack of Republican Policy Committee member participation -- is reprehensible. It is not only the little matter of Halliburton and its subsidiaries vacuuming up billions in taxpayer money without oversight. It is the services that Halliburton and its subsidiaries utterly FAIL to provide to our troops and the people of Iraq in return for that money, putting the lives of our soldiers at great risk in the name of maximum profit.
Your absence from every hearing regarding this outrageous abuse speaks volumes on the interest you and your colleagues take in curbing government fraud and waste, and ultimately in protecting the lives of our men and women in uniform: precisely none. But that is no great surprise to me.
It might come as a surprise to our troops, however, to learn that the same political party that takes such pleasure in pointing fingers at others for "not supporting the troops" is in fact going out of its way to undermine their basic needs and safety in Iraq by refusing to hear the truth. I will personally endeavor to inform as many soldiers as possible of the real meaning of Republican "support".
In the meantime I suggest that if you and your Republican colleagues on the Senate Policy Committee want to bury your heads in the sand, you do it in Iraq. At least there, as more appropriate targets of Iraqi frustration, you will be of some legitimate use.
Please make your voice heard, we owe it to our men and women serving in Iraq as well as to the Iraqis.
