Republicans keep saying no timetable, can't signal our moves to insurgents. They are trying to change the conversation - most people would acknowledge we don't want to signal our plans to insurgents or make those remaining more vulnerable.
I feel like we skipped over the main issue. Forget timetables, pullouts, staying the course, winning - let's have some leadership, some accountability.
They screwed up. Rumsfield wanted small troop numbers. He was wrong. Whatever and whoever planned this thing. They were wrong. Make them go, get in new faces, new ideas. Don't swagger around using your political capital - convene some serious meetings with folks on both sides of the aisle, take some help from democrats, listen to john kerry (who was supported by 49% of voters). Be a leader - it is bigger than republican and democrat, conservative and liberal - rise to the occasion (a purely elective nightmare of your own making but an occasion nonetheless). You absolutely cannot afford to stay the course - you have to change the course.
