I Think It's Time for a New Tactic With Freepers

I went over there last night to look at their running thread for *'s press conference.

You know what? They love him. After reading the 800-somethingth orgasmic post, it became clear that there is no piece of criticism that's going to get through to them. They love him like a rebellious 19 year old loves a boyfriend/girlfriend Mama says is bad news, and clings to even harder as a result.

I think it's time for a little reverse psychology. A little patience, and a little seed planting.

Specifics? Eh, don't know yet.

It's like trying to have a rational discussion on comparative religion with someone who thinks Adam and Eve were real people and the Bible is the literal word of God. You're going to get nowhere and will just wind up even more frustrated. Better to focus energy elsewhere.

Converting Bushites is like converting a hardcore Fundie to Buddhism. They believe they'll go to hell for denying the faith. Doesn't matter what evidence they're presented with - you're talking FAITH here.

There are "fundies" and there are the more borderline types that just might be able to see through the fog once in a while. I don't think we should entirely give up. Jesus said we should care for the wheat and tares alike, until the day of harvest when we separate the wheat from the chaff. I'd happily shovel some Freepers into the manure pile.

9. Simple if...

Always look at Bush as being the farther who always says "It just is, son. Trust me." and the freepers as the adoring son saying "Ok dad, you get no questions from me. If you say the moon is the sun and the sun is the moon, thats the way it is." It all makes more sense then. They weren't allowed to question authority when they were growing up.

Did you ever see a poll were 30% back the most ludicrous side of an issue? That's the freepers. They are brain dead, pull the plug, don't bother, you couldn't get through to them no matter how hard you try.

And believe me, nothing short of pine box will turn that kind of fan from the object of their idolatry. You could lead them into a room where Bush** was engaged in a menage-a-trois with Scottie and Jim/Jeff, and their deluded minds would immediately conceive of a half dozen excuses to pardon the behavior.

I know, because I run something of a fan club for a celebrity. Most of them are down to earth and just accept the guy's foibles. But some of them -- yeesh. Suggest he's anything less than a deity and the claws come out. It's childish and incredibly irritating. I gave up trying to reach them long ago.
