The Most Vulnerable Republican Congressman in your State:
Well I jsut did a quick search - and I've found Georgia's.

Basically i followed this link:

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/officials/directory/directory.dbq?command=congdir

went to "Member Name Search" And then selected "Rep", "House" And my state.

then i narrowed down who's either a freshman or a 2nd-termer. Unless they've done soemthing particularly egregious (Like being Tom Delay) I've discounted anyone that may have had time to form serious name recognition.

The people y'all choose for your states, are the people that should be targeted for ousting.

and without further ado -

The Most Vulnerable Republican Congressman in Georgia are:

Phil Gingrey - GA 11th District - 2nd termer
Tom Price - GA 6th District - 1st Termer
Lynn Westmoreland - GA 8th District - 1st Termer

Let me know who it is in your state! I expect to see at least 49 more posts in this thread. ;-)

He said during the 2004 campaign that Groton sub base would not be on the closing list. Guess he didn't do enough kissing Bush's behind.

31. Yes, and good riddance!
I think Shays is fairly vulnerable, too, although of them all, he's the best. I'd love to see Johnson beat (and her potential competition is my state senator and I like him very much), but I doubt it can happen.

15. Florida
Oddly, I think if the Democrats here in Florida just grew a pair of big brass ones, the most vulnerable Republican rep. is one of the longest-serving -- E.Clay Shaw.

He's in Fort Lauderdale, the seat of heavily Democratic Broward County, and of all the Republican reps, his last re-election was by the closest margin at 63%. If the Democrats ran a serious candidate and treated it like a real election instead of just assuming Shaw will win, they'd have a real chance in Fort Lauderdale.

*not* marching in lockstep with Herr Bush. But that's why I think he might be vulnerable. I don't know much about the North Carolina's third district. If the constituents still love the pResident, they may want to either vote Jones out or stay home on election day.

Since I haven't lived here very long, I haven't figured the state out yet. There are a lot of Democrats down here who seem more like Republicans to me.

Perhaps someone else in North Carolina will chime in.

47. I live in his district
and I think he will win in a walk. They have gerrymandered the district racially in that a majority black district (Butterfield) has left this district nearly lilly white. Plus he has four military institalitions in his district. I honestly don't see winning here (we also have the major problem that we don't do GOTV efforts in the part of his district which is in Wilson County which doesn't help).

51. Like many Southerners he used to be a Democrat
Unusual for many Southerners he is a Catholic. He is very religious and is on the forefront of involving religion and politics. His dad was Congressman in this district for a really long time (as a Democrat) and when he died the son ran as a Republican for Congress (he had been a Democrat in the state legislature). In all honesty they have only had one really well financed opponent against him and that person lost close to 60/40. This time he won around 2/3 of the vote though against a very underfunded opponent (he was so poorly funded I couldn't get my local teachers union to endorse him they remained neutral).

Even when challenged by an underfunded Dem, he nearly lost. First termer, and if people wake up, he's outta there. The district has quite a bit of Omaha in it, and that makes him vulnerable. He has yet to do anythinbg worthwhile...his voting habits look like a right hand bush rubber stamp...:puke:

The only thing he has going for him...the GOP machine, and that is rusty and falling apart...:)

35. The problem is
that in the small, rural districts people can't afford to run. Very few people are willing to take that much time off to run what's perceived as a losing race. There's also the issue of losing business contacts by running as a democrat. It's really not so easily resolved.

She's a fourth-termer or something, but her re-election numbers have been steadily declining, even againt Richard Romero, who, while a nice person, is a totally incompetent campaigner.

Steve Pearce (R-2, south) has the oil patch locked up. There's no way that's gonna change for a while, except perhaps with a strong populist candidate from somewhere other than Las Cruces.

Tom Udall (D-3, north, my rep :D) is a good Dem who's popular enough to win heavily (65-35) Republican San Juan County against an opponent who's our DA (he carried SJ by 3 votes, but he still carried it, damn it!).

Gerlach, the representative from my district, might be vulnerable - problem is finding a challenger with name recognition from here.

Charles W. Dent is a first termer, and from the Lehigh Valley, too.

Possibly Timothy F. Murphy, from western PA, is vulnerable.

40. Gerlach is definitely vulnerable
Ms. Murphy damned near beat him last time and she is running again. Also the Fitzgerald fellow who won Weldon's seat in the 6th district now has an Iraq war vet named Patrick Murphy running for the Democratic nomination. So we may have two democratic Murphy's in bordering districts. Dent may be weak also, but I don't see that Driscol guy as strong enough to do it. The Lehigh Valley Democrats need to find someone with military background to run against him. I am so thankful to be in Tim Holden's district(barely). I can go less than a mile in three different directions and be in another congressional district. They sure did a banged up job when they carved Berks county up into four congressional districts. (6th, 15th, 16th, and 17th)

i do agree that approval ratings need to be taken into account too - that is a better standard.

I'm not sure exactly where Price's seat is, but I will definitely do what I can to make sure he doesn't run unopposed this time around.

I was goign to go work in Gingrey's territory because part of his little gerrymandered district is near me, but I would rather take the extra effort to make sure no republican runs unopposed in georgia.

57. Texas
The picture is far from clear to me about Texas. Delay's skullduggery installed some GOP freshmen who are probably somewhat vulnerable just because they're no names.

Without Bush at the top of the ticket and with Bush's popularity slipping, Republicans will have a bit more trouble. Delay will be challenged. Maybe they'll be ready to take out the trash down in the 22nd District.

Here in the 6th District, "Smoky Joe" Barton was challenged last time by a plucky young attorney named Morris Meyer. He made a lot of headway in Barton's stronghold areas including Ennis, his hometown. Morris lost 2-to-1 mainly because voters voted mostly straight ticket. On his own, Morris is a strong contender, and he swore he'd be back to take on Barton. He knows the terrain. He knows Barton's miserable record. AND, he's got good name ID.

Martin Frost is out there somewhere. Delay stacked the deck as much as he could, and Martin still pulled 44% of the vote. He's still very popular and a very savvy player who how to win.

Except for the last election he has largely run unopposed. His opponent in the last election was never a threat.

Senate is also pretty locked up with Cornyn and Hutchinson.
