During the height of last year's campaign, a firm hired by the CRNC sent repeated solicitation letters printed on "Republican Headquarters 2004" letterhead to elderly Republicans, some of whom suffered from dementia. The letter urged recipients to pray over an American flag lapel pin, then send it back--along with $1,000--so George W. Bush could wear it during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. The solicitation was signed by "Paul Gourley, National Director." Though Gourley denied knowledge of the letter's content until it was published, it cast a cloud over his candidacy."

My first impulse was to laugh at the sheer absurdity of this, until I begin to think about the honest, elderly conservatives who were duped into believing that Bush would actually wear THEIR prayed-over pin on his lapel.
What part of the brain causes one to conspire and committ fraud against his own kind, no doubt in the name of "morality"?
Some might remember letters sent out by Republican operatives in Reagan's day, indicating that President Reagan was "personally disappointed" that he or she hadn't donated to the party lately and that he had expressed hope that they might follow through after all.
Of course, no one of consequence was to blame....just overzealous staffers.
The brain of the neocon.....the depths of evil that knows no bounds.
