3. Something is wrong. I've been hearing since Jan that his numbers are down
by now they should be at 20%.

WTF? Who is playing hard and fast with the numbers?

4. Do you really need to ask?
After all, we can't have the rest of America looking at the REAL numbers, that might inspire action.

Pardon my sarcasm. I was simply gobsmacked last night listening to the heinous speech on the radio, and ended up screaming in the car.

Screaming in a small place is no fun.

6. welcome to DU, Ms. K! And I can't believe there's been a big
swing in VA, as reported. On top of everything else that he's done wrong, quite a few (mostly red) military officers and contractors are upset that the admin. is proposing to close or move operations far away from their present locations in blue areas of NoVA, which is probably at least partially motivated by a wish to reduce the number of voters and economic stability in those blue areas.

5. So, if the 2004 Election Were Held Today...
...based on W.Bush's Approval/Disapproval rating, Kerry wins 379-129 (with 30 electoral votes too close to call).

A lot of good it does us now, but if we keep up the pressure, we should be able to roast 'em in 2006, as long as the Dems don't squander it.

7. Not if "they" control the voting machines. It would be a landslide...
...for Bush.

8. Well, that's presuming that we get the voting machine problems
solved by 2006. But those are interesting numbers!

9. Funny how Ohio and Nevada stand out
Both states were the targets of some major GOP skullduggery in the election.

21. I looked at that also, even Ohio was in the dumps. Very Strange
One thing that is missed is whether or not these are registered voters (or they thing they are registered voters) vs non registered voters.

That would be key right now to see how many people have given up on voting.

10. Oklahoma is a surprise
Being an Oklahoman and surrounded by SUVs literally covered with all the cheap signs of passive patriotism, these numbers surprise me. Especially when you see the polls were taken by the local TV stations which all have a distinct right wing bias.

I'm not sure what's going on buy I have noticed that people just don't talk about the war anymore. People don't talk about how crazy the insurgents are. People don't talk about how cowardly suicide bombers are. People just don't talk about it.

After the speech the other night, nobody mentioned it at work. Either they didn't watch it or they can no longer support the man they voted for.

It's almost as if people are ashamed of something. Like they are ashamed they covered their SUVs in 5 for a dollar "Freedom Isn't Free" magnets.

The military is one of the biggest employers in Oklahoma. Perhaps now that everybody knows somebody who's family has been torn up by long deployments, injuries, or death, it's not so easy to wave the flag and brag about how we're "kicking iracky ass."

The July 4th parade in my town is always a huge and mindless event with a hundred thousand people waving flags and singing horrible Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith songs. It will interesting to see how people will act this year.

when I talk to them they seem like real, down to earth people, yet they are so easily fooled by bush. WTF?

15. If your local stations are like mine..
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 03:00 PM by rainbow4321
They are masters at manipulating numbers/stats and feeding them to the locals.
For a few years in a row, a nearby bakery (located in the REDDEST county in TX) would sell red cookies and blue cookies on Election Day. Every year the bakery people would say "see, more bought red than blue"!!
Every frigging year one of our TV stations would offer this up as proof of repukes beating Dems. Never once reminding viewers "don't forget, this IS in a very heavy repuke county".
I have not heard it done lately and I even tried googling the name of the bakery this past year so I could gather some people and buy out the blue cookies just to screw up their "poll". But knowing this area, they would still claim victory for the "red cookies"!!

11. Here in NE...No one is touting bush anymore...
there is a distinct silence...no support, at least outwardly, for this creep.

If NE is silent...the rest of the nation will be in an uproar shortly. I think bush will send the GOP packing in the '06 Mid-Term...something we all need to be working on...:)

16. Thanks for the link
any statisticians here?

I'd like to see the average difference between red and blue states, 'cause it's interesting to me how some of these "red" states have his approval down in the 30's.

18. Interesting survey
What I really found interesting was how many states that *supposedly* voted for the idiot just 7 short months ago, now show a disapproval rating of more than 50%.

Kinda hard to believe that so many states could have such a change of heart so quickly, eh?

Arkansas 52%
Colorado 52%
Iowa 52%
Missouri 52%
Nevada 57%
Ohio 57%

Let's just hope its true, and bears some fruit in the next election cycle.

22. Electorally speaking...
If you consider the approval-disapproval spread for each state, Bush is ahead in states with 129 total electoral votes. He's running even for another 31 electoral votes, and behind for 378. We should hope that his misfortune befalls the GOP as a whole - then we have plenty of openings for 2008.
