Can someone explain the Katherine Harris fiasco to me?
Florida Republicans are all in a tizzy over the fact that Katherine Harris is going to run for Senate against Bill Nelson, and they're worried she's too weak a candidate. What I don't understand is how things got this far. KH did her job for Bush in 2000, and was duly rewarded with a safe congressional seat in 2002 - a nice pay raise, a chance to strut on stage in Washington, and maybe in time, a chance to look for higher office. Where did she get the notion that four years of experience as a backbencher in Congress in any way prepared her for a statewide race and promotion to the Senate?

1. Who said anything about preparation?
GWB basically farted around during much of his time as governor of Texas, and look at him now...

3. Maybe they really want her to give makeup tips to the Senate
She is so adept at putting the stuff on doncha know! I cannot think of any reason they want to set that strumpet up as a possible senate candidate.

Wasn't there some coniption she started over a threat of terrorist attacks in Indiana or something last year?

4. Not just being a "back-bencher"
It's the canoodling that went on ON THE BACK BENCH that disqualifies her!

5. I think she was afraid if she waited too long
either Jeb might try for it or Bush would drag her down the drain.

6. These people are all into fast-tracking. Look at the Guvernator.
And as soon as he was elected, they were talking about amending the Constitution to allow him to run for Prez! ("The Prezinator"?)

All they care about is image and putting someone up whom they think can win. But the polls against Nelson are already showing the miscalculated horrendously on this one.

They thought Harris has a rabid following, and she does.... among the far right. Problem is, that group is shrinking by the day.

THAT's why the tizzy. They blew this one, and as part of the bigger picture, their patina is fading.

15. Is that an indication of just how small the * cabal really is?
To maintain power they have to fast-track their supporters into positions of power, or they will all go down the tubes with *.

They are all lame ducks.

17. I have always thought one of the best arguments against them was...
... "You mean to say the best you can do is the under-achieving son of a mediocre president? You mean to tell me that this is the best you've got?"

If they go for Jeb, it'll get even more ridiculous.

7. Katharine Harris is a female variant of the wannabes on the make
whose personal and other insecurities form the basis of the Republican strategy of acquiring faces for their domination of Congress.Katharine Harris is a pathetic creature who thinks that performing a service for the Bush cabal raises her stock among these criminals. She is now going to discover that her fifteen minutes are up and someone else is going to replace her.

9. Sure, she has over-stepped her boundaries, Jeb Bush owed....
...her only one political favor for helping get his brother George elected as pres in 2000, but Katherine has other ideas and sees the connection as an annuity for life. One way or another Katherine Harris will be getting up into the highest (or lowest depending on ones perspective) levels of DC politics. For now, she has no choice but to schmooze KKKarl Rove who is hardly the kind of stud muffin Katherine Harris is attracted to.

Katherine Harris to Run for Senate in 2006
By BRENDAN FARRINGTON Associated Press Writer

(AP) - TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Republican Rep. Katherine Harris, who as Florida's secretary of state was both praised and vilified for her part in the 2000 presidential recount, said Tuesday she will run for the Senate next year against Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson.

Her announcement brings a major name to the race - along with the potential to attract huge infusions of cash from Republicans and Democrats alike because she is such a polarizing figure.

"The time has come to launch a campaign for the U.S. Senate," Harris told The Associated Press.

Harris, 48, is serving her second term in Congress. She is considered a top fundraiser and is a popular figure among Republicans.

But she is also despised by some Democrats for her role in overseeing the recount that ultimately gave Florida and the White House to George W. Bush over Al Gore. And her entry into the race could galvanize Democratic voters and contributors.

11. Here's a serious answer...
On Harris's part, it's just hubris and greed. You get a taste of the power pie, and you want a bigger slice. And she's over-confident enough to think she can pull it off (never mind the fact that, in a statewide election, she'd get annihilated).

The problem is, the Bush team recognizes that last parenthetical fact, which is why they've abandoned her and her potential senate candidacy in favor of the state speaker of the house.

12. A pay raise she doesn't need
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 10:19 AM by fishnfla
Her family is mega wealthy.

She had her ego over-inflated in 2000 and was stroked to run for Congress. She won in a heavy GOP district.
Statewide her star is dim and the internal polling is showing she'll lose for the Senate.

Whats interesting to me is that apparantly she was told by the chimp, Rove and Jeb not to run for Senate, but is going to anyway apparantly. She must be pissed.

16. For one, she's somehow tied up in 9-11
Of all people is was she who recommended Rudi Dekkers - the Dutch guy that ran Huffman Aviation in Venice, Florida, where several of the alledged 9-11 hijackers got their flight lessons - to the government as an anti-terrorist specialist. I mean, just how small can the world be?

18. Harris is a power hungry bitch
It is simple -- she wants more power and a bigger stage to perform on and the senate fills the bill. After wearing her Bushco kneepads in 2000 she thought the Bush crime family would support her desire for more power. Instead, Bushco is stabbing her in the back.
