Did anyone see Lieberman on CNN about 45 minutes ago

He said, "People need to realize that we need a nominee who everyone can vote for. There are a growing number of Republicans and Independents out there that don't want Bush but will not vote for a Democrat, but they will vote for me."

I don't even think Joe realized what he had just said. They will not vote for a Dem, but they will vote for him. So what does that make (or more exactly, not make) Joe?

Just thought it was funny.

2. Joe will present a policy that is reasonable and I will think

well, he isn't all that bad, then he always follows by saying something stupid.

Joe is not a democrat, he just plays one on tv.

He is the only candidate that I would vote for that would leave me feeling guilty. All of the rest, I will vote for with a big smile on my face.:)

5. Lieberman thinks he wouldn't have a problem?

Democratic Underground isn't representative of very much except the left flank of the Democratic Party. What informal serveys here have shown over and over again is that Lieberman, more than any other potential nominee, would cause people who identify with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party to stay home or vote Green. Whatever Lieberman picks up in the center and among moderate conservatives he will lose among progressives.

Beating Bush is not going to be a cakewalk. The nominee will need every vote he can get. Lieberman can't get them.

6. The point is that Lieberman may do better against Bush than Kerry

Kerry will never be embraced by the Left, and neither will Lieberman, on account of the war. Unlike Lieberman, Kerry's appeal is confined to prowar Democrats and the ABB crowd (some passionate endorsement there, the lesser of two evils). Kerry has no appeal among independents, and he will get clobbered in the South. People vote for the top of the ticket, having a Southerner as VP won't help!

Kerry will not carry as many states as Gore did in 2000, and may in fact lose the popular vote.
