He said he was “surprised to find that Karl Rove has emerged … It was pretty startling to have a guy who is working for the President of the United States to be accused of that. Once people who start to get corrupted and they get away with it, it continues to happen more and more.”

"I think this is a government versus press fight, it’s a political fight," he added. "If it turned out that Rove did lie about what he did or did not say to (Time reporter) Matt Cooper, we’re going to know that very quickly."

The Democratic chairman also took a question about whether Iowa should be removed from the top of the lineup in presidential primaries. “I don’t want to speak too much about that, because there’s a commission looking about that," Dean said. "We will probably do some surgery and probably not major surgery.”

Towards the end of the call, Dean took a swipe at President George W. Bush; he has recently taken fire from conservatives for suggesting the Republican Party was one of “white Christians.” “The president has essentially destroyed his presidency by being so unwilling to work with anybody, which is essentially 48 percent of the American people,” he quipped.

While Dean is sometimes viewed as hyperbolic, it is only because of the current state of politics, where it has become somehow "inappropriate" to ridicule republicans, but almost expected to ridicule democrats. Even many so-called democrats follow the same absurd thinking!

As Randi Rhodes said, it doesn't matter what party you say you belong to. If you're ridiculing a democrat {like Dean}, then you're a republican. That sums it up quite nicely, in my opinion.

13. Socially acceptable bigotry.

My theory is that during the 80s the socially acceptable racial bigotry of the south morphed (and spread) into the socially acceptable political bigotry we endure today. If I as a white guy make a single joke about a real attribute of black folkz, even blacks will likely find it humorous. If, otoh, I make a string of jokes about blackz attributes, racial bigotry becomes an issue. Listen to one of Rush Limbaz Dem tirades and tell me that is not political bigotry. Unfortunately, I think the practice has even infected some on the left.

Diplomacy and a willingness to work with others with different solutions is an essential quality of good leadership. This is what made presidents such as JFK, FDR, HST such outstanding presidents.
President Clinton has that particular quality, even Nixon, Rest his Soul, had a good smattering of that.

Really. Kerry lost the popular vote and he lost in Ohio. He never even campaigned in North Carolina, his running mate's home state, and he wrote Florida off early. In 2000 with Al Gore we had a point but in 2004 with Kerry all we do is undermine any credibility we might have by hanging on to this "Kerry won" BS.
