What is the best thing that could come out of the London bombings?

So far on DU, I have read people discussing a lot of the bads implications from the terrorist attacks in London and a lot of people saddened by them, understandably. However, what is the best thing for the world that could come out of this?

I think that it just might be Blair pulling all British troops and support out of Iraq saying that he must concentrate on keeping his people safe instead of creating more terrorists. This would leave Bu$h out there all by himself and I don't think he could handle the pressure.

The best that can come out of this is the removal of Tony Blair, which will mean the removal of Great Britain's troops from Iraq, leaving the Chimp and all of his sheep alone.

It was early morning, so I may have misheard NPR, but I think the first response from Blair was that he was going to remain at the G8 conference, and he later changed his mind and announced he was returning to London.

I think that first announcement, assuming I heard it right, will be the final straw against Blair, unless he does some serious Churchill impressions in the next few days.

8. There's a defiant mood on the streets of London tonight. People are

concerned but calm, and the general mood is basically we will not be cowed by these bastards. I hope this translates also into, we are fine as we are and will not accept any more control, tyranny, or restriction of our liberties that will inevitably be cynically syuggested in the wake of this tradegy.

The spirit of the Blitz is a cliche now in this country but i hope it rears its head to say a big fuck you to the terrorists and a big fuck you to any politicians that try to exploit this attack.

The best thing to come out of this is if everyone goes to work tomorrow and the disruption and fear the terrorists hoped for barely registers.

10. Maybe, the idiots in this country, spewing how we are safer

and fighting them over in Iraq keeps them from here, will see the folly of their veiws... It's now obvious that Al Quada has spread into more cells, in different countries and are getting stronger not weaker, and can attack in other countries. There probably is a "Secret Al Quada Cell of the Americas" right here already and planning attacks like this...Maybe, control of our country will be put back into the hands of adults again, instead of the simple minds now in control...Maybe, they'll start giving SERIOUS THOUGHT to protecting our homeland and securing our borders.

11. We're going to have to deal with the bad stuff first

People are going to rally to Bush (and perhaps Blair) one more time, to Bush here to levels a little under 60% is my guess. And all the Iraq hawks and oil traders are going to do what they can to exploit it to the largest extent they can. Of course.

The good news, I think, is that the rally will disintegrate very quickly and collapse their ratings below what they are now. More catastrophic success for them.

These boys will use up a lot more of their usefulness to and credibility with their voters in the next few days and weeks. And that, I agree with you, leads to British political clarity on the overall situation and ending of their role in the Iraq foolishness in some pretty abrupt way some months down the road.

I'd speculate that Bush also loses his cred on 'fighting' Terrorism with American Indie voters, his last hold on them, in the aftermath. They've lost their goodwill but given him benefit of the doubt in recent months, they suspect that the War on Terror is going wrong. Bush is going to get their full support one more time...and now that they're paying full attention, the impending demonstration of his essential ineffectuality and smoke-and-mirrors gaming of Fighting Terror is going to to strike home.

15. Be great if it makes everyone wake up to the fact you can't stop this.....

by going around invading countries and killing Muslims. You have to instead:
(1) take reasonable precautions at home (which we have not);
(2) Speak out against ALL violence
(3) Act in accord with your words (i.e. stop killing innocents, whether on purpose or by "collateral damage")

Our ham handed policy of burning down forests to get to a shrub is just going to continue this cycle of violence ad nauseum.
