hey, remember Jeff Gannon?

I've posted recently about him, to the sound of crickets. But I think this is interesting. On his website, he links to a WaPo article

about PlameGate, with this comment:

Reporter may have outed CIA agent
Isn't this a strange twist in the story? What will happen if it was a reporter who revealed Valeria Plame's covert status to a White House official and NOT the other way around as it has been alleged?

Oddly, that speculation is limited to one sentence in the article, and is included only tangentially:

Fitzgerald may learn more details from Cooper's notes. Sources close to the investigation say there is evidence in some instances that some reporters may have told government officials -- not the other way around -- that Wilson was married to Plame, a CIA employee.

That's it! And yet this one-off becomes Jeff's spin on the whole article.

WTF? Is he waving a red flag? Herring? Like I said, I continue to wonder about this guy, and this is just too strange.

because reporters don't have the security clearance to obtain that information.

2. Thinking through it

it's just a variation of the RW spin that EVERYBODY already knew Plame was an agent so nobody really vilated anything.

so it works like this:

the WH didn't know
The Everybody in the Washington Press Corps knew
The press told the WH insiders
The WH insiders told Novak (who wasn't in the know like the rest of the WH press corps).

therefore, no crime.

4. i think you are right

but i also wonder why Gannon seems like he's being all coy about it. I have previously speculated that Jeff may himself have been used by Karl to get specific elements of the story out there, and then "neither confirm nor deny" creatively enough that he can claim he didn't actually reveal Plame, or her name, or her job, or her marriage, or some other technicality.

6. I suspect

Gannon/Guckert/Bulldog is being coy because he thinks he's more clever than the rest of us.....trying to take us down the path one step at a time....

He's accustomed to dealing with Free Republic where you have to do all the thinking for the freepers and they can only absorb so much at one time..
