Iraq Signs Military Pact with Iran
Thu, 7 Jul 2005 22:11:20 -0700Summary:

Here’s an update: The “democratically elected” government of Iraq, much-ballyhooed by the Bush adminstration and its toadies, has signed an agreement of military cooperation with current Bush public enemy number one, Iran.

In other news, 100 “democratically elected” members of the Iraqi parliament have signed a petition demanding that the US withdraw its forces from Iraq immediately.

Iraq signs a pact in Tehran agreeing to accept Iranian military training and other cooperation.

Former foes Iraq and Iran announced “a new chapter” in their relations on Thursday, including cross-border military co-operation, dismissing US concerns about Iranian regional meddling.

On his first official visit to Tehran, Iraqi minister of defence Saadoun al-Dulaimi asserted his country’s sovereign right to seek help from wherever it sees fit in rebuilding its defence capabilities.

“Nobody can dictate to Iraq its relations with other countries,” Mr Dulaimi said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Admiral Ali Shamkhani.

The two ministers said that a military co-operation agreement, now in the preparation, would include Iranian help with training and upgrading Iraq’s reconstituted armed forces, a process so far overseen by US and coalition advisers.

1. OMG, this is hilarious. Hilarious and sooooo poetically just. What is
the little goose stepping buffoon going to say now? The Iraqis siding up with Iran demanding he get the troops out. The Iraqis who won in his much touted election, you know, the historical one (as he tried to make is sound that Iraq had never had an election of any kind before).

Sometimes the irony is just to beautiful to put into words.

3. And he's just unstable enough to do just that. Let's all hope and pray
that if the squatter in the White House ever goes for the nuclear football that someone knocks his ass cold before he can do any damage.

Does anyone really think that the military will start letting nukes fly if this crazy bastard gives the order? I don't know the answer to that. That's why I'm asking.

6. That day is coming (soon?): majority of Iraq parliament votes "US get out"
That would push him over the edge, I'm sure.

12. This is the absolutely last thing the neo-cons wanted
The Iraqi-Syrian alliance was one of the reason they thought "Saddam had to go", and now the "New Iraq" has gone and signed an alliance with the new hardliner government in Iran instead. What comes around goes around, assholes. It's not like saner voices didn't predict this three years ago. I read somewhere else that the new deal entailed $1 billion worth of Iranian military aid to Iraq...

And, as the Ayatollah Khomeini once said, there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.

That doesn't mean they won't try though, which is the scary part.

13. You're so right. And scarier still, the thought that it's just what they
wanted so they can take 'em all on at once instead of little by little. They may feel the alliance just gives them a bigger (hey US...now it's scarier! Booga-booga!) excuse to expand operations, DOD money and Halliburton profits, er, operations.

14. Bush and Blair had to know this was coming. Why else were we suddenly
going to pull out of Iraq in 9 months after Rumsliar was saying it could be 24 years before we leave?
