The Right Is Literally Crowing Over The London Terror Attacks
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 12:52 PM by Mark E. Smith
What are they so damned happy about?

That Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden continue to kill people nearly 4 years after 9-11 speaks volumes about the failure of the Bush administration's so-called "War On Terrorism." That the methods employed by Al Qaeda to once again murder innocent civilians in a major Western city could very well be indication of an increased level of logistic and technical sophistication is yet another grim reminder of the consequences of this failure.

The lesson of London is that the terrorists have not been weakened, and continue to be able to strike at the heart of any country they wish, no matter how well defended or militarily prepared. July 7 exposes once and for all the lies lurking behind the almost 4 years of self-serving deception we have heard from the Bush administration on this subject.

Something that becomes readily apparent after reading several reactionary blogs and columnists on the topic this morning: The right cannot resist the impulse to crow about these horrifying attacks because of the perceived political advantage it gives to this incompetent president and his policies. There is no measure of sorrow in their words, little compassion for the victims or their families, only a perverse and patently absurd sense that somehow things getting worse make the president and his policies look better.

But how many more times can the "Defeat Is Victory" crowd go to this well? How many more terror attacks will it take before Bush's reputation as the Great Terrorism Fighter fails them and sinks to the level of everything else he has screwed up? For how long can a war being fought without any tangible victories be seen as an indication of the vision and resolve of those prosecuting it?

That the deaths of 40 people in London can serve as a point of hope for the right is a stark indication of just how bankrupt and desperate things have gotten for these people and those they so perversely adore.

1. Part of me feels the attack was perpetuated
by the right wing war hawks rather than any Muslim organization just to evoke this response.
Just look at how fast al Queda was blamed when there is no evidence at all on who did it.
Guilty till proven innocent appears to be the new norm.

8. Oh, come on!
That's a bit too far-fetched, don't you think? The tin foil seems a bit heavy in this thread.

10. I thought it was too
until I remembered a conversation I had with a friend at the beginning of the week (about Plamegate developments). I told him to watch the news for a distraction "incident" that would grab the headlines. So at the moment I really don't know what to think except to wait and see how the police investigation turns out.

11. the war in Iraq in response to 911 is farfetched
don't you think?

Nothing about the administration is on the level. They have lied, they are lying, they will lie. They will deceive and lie about anything to stay in power.
If you believe that is not true, it aint our tin-foil, it's your blinders.

12. Why is it that when someone questions something like this
that they are instantly accused of tin foil as if it is shameful? The wingnuts have proven time and again that they are more than capable of committing criminal and treasonous acts and lying about it. Then the corporate media always spins the story to benefit the wingers so you don't get any truth or investigative journalism out of them either.

Cui bono? Who benefits in the London bombings? Some shadowy unknown terraist group, or BFEE and his poodle?

If questioning the "official" version of the facts is tin foil, count me in as "tin foil and proud of it."

13. That assumes that they aren't working together
I find the prospect of the attacks actually carried out by the right wing war hawks a bit farfetched, but that doesn't preclude that they could be working with certain factions in order to encourage attacks to take place. I suspect that the bombings were done by a Muslim organization, but the right wing spooks may have their hands in it as well.

9. I am at a loss to comprehend their happiness
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 05:08 PM by Mark E. Smith
It is like the right has become so caught up in their Orwellian triple speak that they've lost touch with reality.

Defeat is victory.

The deaths of our friends and allies strengthen us.

The leader loses, and becomes stronger because of it.

Our failures show our resolve and strength.

Those who question the policies of the leader that led us to these defeats are the enemy of our nation.

6. The Right will never really care about terror.
And why should they?

It's not like their key areas will be attacked by terrorists anytime soon.. what would the terrorists target?
The salon and diner on town square?
The the antique shop by the courthouse?
The honkeytonk on the highway 6 headin' outta town?
The livestock feed store?
The Wal-Mart on the strip?

Most of them don't know what it's like to live with a big target painted on their backs. The terrorists will instead target super-blue cities like New York or Philly or D.C. or Chicago or San Fran - cities where people vote as though their necks are actually on the fuckin' line. And if a few thousand pointy-headed, fag-lovin', babykillers are knocked-off by a bomb, who cares? They'll cry crocodile tears for a bit and move on with their lives, thankful that they have the political tool of fear to wield.

16. I suspect that he means that, because they live in a gated community,...
they don't have the same security concerns that someone in a big city has. (Or even regular, everyday person has.) I could be wrong, but this is how I took it.

It's like hearing someone with insurance say that there's not a problem with health care in the United States. People where I work, who have health care, always say that we have the best health care in the world. Well that's arguable, but if it is true, it should instead be stated that we have the best health care that money can buy! If you don't have money, you don't get health care in the U.S.

By the way, welcome to DU! :hi:

15. I've observed that on TV; anybody actually seen this in print somewhere?
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 06:17 PM by checks-n-balances
Just wondering if anybody had a link to some documentation of this. It would make for some good email to a few right-of-center friends. If so, thanks in advance!

I think most of it is gloating & relief that the subject is again changing from GOP scandals back to terrorism. Whatever the reason, it's DISGUSTING!

On edit: more opinion added

Did the People of Britain feel bad about our 9/11? Of course they did....

We should do the same...and we have....but for those who find glee that this horrid act enables Bush/Blair to continue in Mismanagement Malfeasance through stupid Policies....shame on them.
