So who did London?
I found this at the Times of London site and something in this raises my hackles in a big way. Is this how they are going to go on this thing?

-snip-

AL-QAEDA is secretly recruiting affluent, middle-class Muslims in British universities and colleges to carry out terrorist attacks in this country, leaked Whitehall documents reveal.

-snip-

A joint Home Office and Foreign Office dossier — Young Muslims and Extremism — prepared for the prime minister last year, said Britain might now be harbouring thousands of Al-Qaeda sympathisers.

Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan police chief, revealed separately last night that up to 3,000 British-born or British-based people had passed through Osama Bin Laden’s training camps.

So ... are "Al-Qaeda sympathisers" the suspects? Odd that this is coming out just now, isn't it?

1. Well, if this leak is a lie, then all the other leaks are lies. Good-by
DSM. And does this imply all Al-Qaeda sympathisers are terrorists? That would mean at least half the world. Considering what a good job * is doing to turn the world against us, it may mean more than half. So I guess we will have to invade the rest of the planet right?

2. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend.
I doubt "half the world" are al Qaeda sympathizers.

3. Reminds me that Omar Saeed Sheikh,
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 06:50 PM by Minstrel Boy
bin Laden's "favourite son," who lured Daniel Pearl to his death, was born into a comfortably middle class London family. He only left the UK in the mid-90s.

Another thing to remember about Omar, is that he was also a double agent for Pakistan's ISI. It was Omar who took ISI chief Mahmood Ahmed's call to wire $100,000 to Mohammed Atta.

I don't know who did London, but I don't think the answer will be black and white. Who did London? Maybe everybody.

4. AQ trying to recruit European Muslims isn't exactly breaking news.
Now, those efforts in no way PROVE that it was AQ recruits who did London.

My alternative suspects are BNP-type skinheads.

5. Well, whoever did it the result will be
a Patriot Act lookalike in Britain.

On one of the talking head news this morning there was discussion by someone from Department of Homeland Security. In the course of the discussion it was pointed-out that the because we have the Patriot Act, we are much safer here and of course Britain was 'considering' a similar set of legislation there.

Oh, they also pointed out the Patriot Act should really be made permanent. So the administration is certainly taking advantage of the London bombing of transit system to push the Patriot Act, and how it has made us all so much safer. They even pointed out there needs to be more things done here on local rail and bus systems, but that was up to the states and localities to implement.

So, get ready England, you will be made much safer if you give-up just a few of your civil liberties. Security has a cost you know.
