7. Th grand jury's term expires, unless extended, on October 28th.

The federal grand jury convened to address the Plame inquiry was originally scheduled to expire after 18 months (the normal term) in April of this year. The grand jury extended its term (with court approval) to October.

The contempt citation against Miller expires when the grand jury's term expires. If Miller chooses to testify before the term expires, then the contempt citation under which she's jailed will be lifted. That is, after all, the rationale for a contempt citation. Miller's testimony could possibly result in cancellation of some indictments and creation of others.

Indictments can be issued at any time up to the expiration of the term of the grand jury. Because the investigation and inquiry is on-going and Miller's testimony is still, at least theoretically, possible, indictments are typically postponed until the end of the term.

The grand jury can decide, with court approval, to extend its term yet again.
