(Maybe anti-war should be in quotes.)

The Iraq war is getting less and less popular. The consequences are starting to wear on the ALL of American people. not just liberals. An republican candidate who also takes a stand against Bush's war could split the vote, or shore up a majority with like-minded republicans and independents who are just not prepared to vote Democratic.

My fear is that the GOP will find a candidiate for 08 who promises to end the war, just like Nixon did. And he'll be just as much of a liar as Nixon.

McCain? Hagel? Whoever it is, they'll play up the candidate's opposition to Bush's war....but it'll still be the same puppetmasters running the show.

Just speculating....

who??????????

Maybe I'm having a Senior moment, but I can't think of one who is anti-THIS-war. Anyone?

12. But, none I can think of opposed it from the beginning...
So, we just do to them what they would do to us: Label him/her a flip-flopper, and not let up until the rest of America thinks so, too.

18. I think the inference was a Nixon-like character
who said he was against the war, but escalated the thing.

21. That representative from North Carolina
Walter Jones, I think is his name.

He was for it and now says Bush lied to him.

That's one.

2. That's why it can't just be about Iraq....
by that time we could be in a full-scale recession, or even depression, and if the sheeple are still to stupid/stubborn to realize that it will take another FDR to get us out of it, then so be it, they get what they deserve.

3. Don't worry. Closest is Hagel on unpopularity of the "war" and he is not
"anti - war".

5. Forget '08. with the rumors of a plan to pull out in the next 6-9 months,
they'll do this in Senate and House races.

If we don't take at least one of those legilative bodies back in '06, or at least minimize the majority in both--the world is doomed.

9. not very likely
That would require abandoning the entire PNAC agenda and its in-progress plan of execution. Not very likely. Remember, right now, despite all the carnage, things are going pretty much right on target as far as they are concerned. We haven't even gotten to the oil crunch and china confrontation part. This mess has just gotten started.

11. I don't think a pull-out will happen any time soon.
But you're right...I'm sure there'll be a few moderate (or faux-moderate) repubs who will promise to help draw up a quick withdrawl strategy to get elected in 06.

6. If it was a GENUINE anti-war Republican vs a PNAC Likud blowing DLC shill.
Guess who I would vote for?

And if you don't agree, then you're either lying or you forgot what this party is SUPPOSED to stand for.

Ron Paul over Hillary or Biden? You bet your ass.

7. That's what I'm sayin'.
Nixon ran on a promise to "end the war." And we all know how that turned out.

The only REAL anti-war politicians in America are on the left.

8. Dennis Kucinich....
or someone who is willing to co-opt his ideas or make him VP or something...I believe he is the new FDR, unfortunately without the mass appeal

10. Look the the guy needs to go out there
and make his name a household name. My spouse and I didn't know nothing about the guy until after demo primaries. The guy can be the next FDR type, but again he needs to start now and go all over the Nation.

14. Wouldn't 'mass appeal' be one of FDR's major traits?
So without mass appeal you wouldn't be like FDR. Kind of like saying he's just like George Carlin except he isn't funny.

13. And you would be wrong.
Name the five Democrats that you most dislike. Now name the five Republicans that you most like. Then, examine all their voting records. I've got money that says that any one of the Democrats will have more good votes than most of the Republicans put together.

15. Ron Paul is wrong on everything but the war
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 05:14 PM by Hippo_Tron
He's horrible on civil rights, gay rights, seperation of church and state, spending on social programs, and almost every other democratic ideal. Yea, I have a ton of respect for the guy for speaking his mind even when it's not the popular thing to do and if I lived in his congressional district, I would definately vote for him. However, his views are simply way too far right that I could ever vote for him to be the leader of this country. I'll even go so far as to say that Hillary and Biden have far less integrity than Ron Paul does, but at least they can be held SOMEWHAT accountable to enact democratic ideals.

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion and your vote, as am I.

23. He's wrong on civil rights?
I thought he's a libertarian. Isn't he against the PATRIOT Act as well?
The only problem I see with Paul are his economic policies and beliefs, but I certainly have respect for his consistancy.

24. I wouldn't worry too much about it
Bush is extremely popular among his base and the party's base. I don't see anyone getting the nomination that has been too critical of the war and Bush's policies in general.

That's why I believe Hagel (who's been more of a war critic than anti-war) has no chance whatsoever of getting his party's nomination. The same pretty much goes with Lindsey Graham and whomever else that has been critical of Bush.
