Bill Nelson vs. Katherine Harris in 2006.
Republicans have already announced they are going to target Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, with Representative Katherine Harris the favorite among GOP candidates. Harris declared recently that she will give up her House seat and challenge Nelson, despite the fact that Nelson has a savvy political organization that ended last quarter with more than $3 million in the bank. Harris reported just $250,000 during the same period.

Harris rose to national prominence in 2000 when, as Florida Secretary of State, she helped deliver the state's 27 electoral votes to George W. Bush and sealed Bush's victory over Al Gore. While attempting to purge convicted felons from the voting rolls, Harris also stopped tens of thousands of eligible residents from voting-most of whom, incidentally, lived in strongly Democratic counties.

Although Harris is popular among the radical right Republican base due to her role in Bush's 2000 victory, even GOP strategists wonder if she is too controversial to win in the general election against Nelson. Some hope that another challenger will emerge. Other possible Republican candidates include Reps. Mark Foley, Cliff Stearns, and Dave Weldon, plus state Attorney General Charlie Crist and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher.

1. The ultimate Grudge Match...I'll give till it hurts to Nelson....
He's not at the top of my list, but he'll move there if this monster, thief runs against him.

He's got that Southern politician smile masking a killer instinct. She won't know what hit her. They'll disocver things, after she's nominated, that just trounce her and nice guy Nelson will just move on saying "oh, my, I hadn't heard that." Hell, I'm looking foward to this.

It will also give the centerist Democrats reason to really look at voting scams in Florida.

7. You wish is the command to the Florida voters. They won't let you down.
 and they'll do it in casual attire, wearing shades, in November while we're cold here around DC and you're freezing your ass off.

 but, "it's all good!"

3. GOP will knock her out of the primary. They have already threatened.
And they have the election fraud to do it, thanks to Katie Dearest, lol.

4. This is FLORIDA, Remember
You can be sure that Ms. Harris still has the keys and passcodes to
all the vote tabulators in Florida,
and that the votes will be fixed around the candidate.

5. I wish a real Democrat would run against Nelson.
If he's the only Dem in the race, and it looks like he's going to be, I'll support him. I frankly don't see much difference in the two. Other than the numbers game, and control of the Senate, I see no advantage in Nelson over Harris.

He refused to support the judicial filibusters. He voted against EVERY amendment that would have softened that horrible bankruptcy bill. He supported CAFTA. I could go on and on.

6. You are so wrong to say "I see no advantage in Nelson over Harris."
Harris would be HORRIBLE compared to Nelson, come on!

Look at his overall record compared to what Harris' would be:

Would Harris vote 100% in favor of National Abortion Reproductive Rights Action League's positions?

Would Harris vote 0% in favor of National Right to Life's positions?

Would Harris vote 60-67% in favor of the ACLU's positions?

Would Harris vote 60-67% in favor of the ACLU's positions?

Would Harris vote 75% in favor of the Human Rights Campaign's positions?

A pro-gay, labor, abortion rights Senator, that's Nelson and not Harris.

10. I just can't do it
I can't vote for Sen.(Zell Jr.)Nelson. He has been on the wrong side most of the time and he has not earned my vote. Also seeing that the DNC does not plan to do anything about the BBV machines and voting problems that have carried over since 2000, I will probably be forced to stay home in 06. I am tired of helping the GOP win by voting for pussy Dems. That includes you too Robert Wexler!

12. Great, and we get an anti-choice, anti-gay fascist like Harris
Your vote is your vote but it is totally lame to call Nelson "Zell Jr.", look at what his ratings are from interest groups and then tell me he and Harris are basically the same. Christ, he's more liberal than Robert Byrd, who seems to be a hero here, on many issues.

13. OK, So maybe Zell Jr. was a little harsh
But that doesn't mean I should vote for him. He has not earned my vote period. He voted to confirm Abu Gonzales. I am not voting for him because of his gay/abortion stance. Those are just election time issues that get swept under the rug once the winner is announced.

Can you show me where Bill stands on those issues? I would be willing to bet he is against gay marriage.

I never said he and Harris are the same. He has not earned my vote and I am tired of voting for weak kneed democrats that refuse to stand up and do what is right.
