All this talk about her being "just" an analyst is hogwash. I remember seeing CIA reps on TV just after this happened who said she was undercover. And this from Newsday at that time:

Columnist Blows CIA Agent's Cover
by Timothy M. Phelps and Knut Royce
WASHINGTON - The identity of an undercover CIA officer whose husband started the Iraq uranium intelligence controversy has been publicly revealed by a conservative Washington columnist citing "two senior administration officials."
Intelligence officials confirmed to Newsday yesterday that Valerie Plame, wife of retired Ambassador Joseph Wilson, works at the agency on weapons of mass destruction issues in an undercover capacity - at least she was undercover until last week when she was named by columnist Robert Novak.---------------------------
For a great historical review of the entire matter, this website has paragraphs detailing every significant event in this case from the very beginning. I just found out from reading this that Simple Scottie had to testify before the Grand Jury. And .. not only were the Air Force One phone records from the Africa trip subpoenaed, but also a "transcript" of a Press Briefing in Africa. Appears that press briefing transcript disappeared from the WH website.
