Cliff May (RNC) just claimed on CNN that Plame was NOT undercover agent
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 09:03 AM by Julius Civitatus
Cliff May, the disgraceful RNC spokesperson, just lied his ass off on CNN, claiming that Rove never broke the law, saying that Valerie Plame was NOT an undercover agent. He weaselly claimed that Plame "may have been an undercover agent in the past, but not at the time of Rove's outing."

Disgusting.

As today's letter from CIA agent Larry Johnson at TMP Cafe proves, she was indeed undercover all the way. The way the GOP is spreading lies, distortions and innuendo everywhere is disgusting! Reporters should call them on their bullshit.

1. But was she?
That's what I've been trying to find out. The cabal says she wasn't but I would like to see some papers proving it. I would also like to see a paper where she was the one who sent her hub on the fact finding mission.

4. She had no power to send husband - and her cover companies had
not been disbanded and were still active CIA fronts. Were her 40 contacts reporting to someone new?? - now that has to be classified or there is no point in "secret".

Only Cheney or the head of the CIA at Cheney's request could send Wilson.

The fact the media treats the GOP lies as a possibly valid opinion shows the GOP control of the media.

5. For your edification...regarding Valerie Plame
Washington Post:

She is a case officer in the CIA's clandestine service and works as an analyst on weapons of mass destruction. Novak published her maiden name, Plame, which she had used overseas and has not been using publicly. Intelligence sources said top officials at the agency were very concerned about the disclosure because it could allow foreign intelligence services to track down some of her former contacts and lead to the exposure of agents.

New York Times:

The syndicated columnist Robert Novak, citing "two senior administration officials," wrote in July that Ms. Plame was an undercover operative for the Central Intelligence Agency specializing in weapons of mass destruction.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/mt/mt-comments.cgi?ent...

Also...

The entire contretemps at the White House this week centers on whether Mr. Rove tried to discredit Mr. Wilson by suggesting that his mission to Niger was the product of nepotism, and that Ms. Wilson had arranged for it. Why a mission to Niger would be such a plum assignment is still a mystery, but the Senate Intelligence Committee, in a report last year, quotes a State Department official as saying that Ms. Wilson had suggested sending her husband. She denies it.

6. Revealed two years ago ...
I remember all of this discussion from two years ago ... it has been demonstrated pretty conclusively that Plame was 'covert'. That is why the CIA filed a complaint with the Justice Department demanding an investigation. After Ashcroft recused himself in the Justice investigation, a Special Counsel was appointed.

And let's use some common sense, why would the Special Counsel spend almost two years investigating and threaten to send - and send one - reporter to jail if he did not see a violation of law?

This is just the hot 'talking point' for the radical Republicans, keep smearing Plame ... and blame the press for problems of their own making.

By the way, I'm becoming more convinced that Judith Miller is stonewalling to protect either Cheney, himself, or someone in Cheney's office. Obviously, Rove has waived any 'privilege' ... so who would Judith Miller be willing to go to jail for if not someone very high up?

12. If she was not, there would not have been a notice sent to Justice
It's pretty fucking simple. If the CIA did not believe that the law may have been broken (i.e., that she was an undercover agent), they would not have sent a note to the DOJ asking for an investigation. End of story. The minimal condition to be met for them to initiate the investigation (which they DID), is their belief that she was undercover. So, if the CIA believes that their own agent is undercover, doesn't that tell you that she WAS undercover. I mean, this isn't fucking rocket science. It's not like the investigation was starte3d by John Kerry and Henry Waxman. the investigation was INITIATED by the CIA. How hard is that for these fucking douchebags to understand????

15. Even if she was not,
Rove's statements show incredible lack of judgment, and he should be fired whether or not he disobeyed a law. Unless he knew she was not under cover, Rove was wrong in outing her. Even if she was not under deep cover, many of her contacts and sources were, and by outing Plame so publicly, Rove outed those contacts and sources that were under deep cover. This was a very serious, wrongful act motivated by a kind of political greed, an overwhelming desire to win and to destroy anyone who so much as contradicts his version of the truth matched in history by the likes of Joseph McCarthy. Rove is not fit to serve in our government in any capacity. He does not have the sense of fairness, the respect for others or the good judgment that we need in our public servants. Legalities are not the only issue here.

2. All the GOP talking points on this are weak, lame and childish.
They might fool the fools that watch FOX news but they won't help Rove in court. He's toast and he might as well admit it. He's only going to drag Bush further down in the polls the longer he remains.

3. Call them on their bullsh*t? Media talking heads basically uninformed and
evidently make little or no effort to be informed--which enables the likes of folks like Clifford May to lie their asses off with impunity. Disgraceful and a sign of our barely functioning democracy.

8. So he agrees that Rove blew the cover of an agent? Interesting.
That will make the prosecution of that fat pasty fuckstick Rove that much easier.

9. Same thing Gannon Said on FreeRepublic.com....
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/5/212837/3714

March 9, 2004 - Gannon gets into a heated exchange with another poster of FreeRepublic.com regarding the Grand Jury subpoena... and Gannon sticks to his talking points - Plame wasn't covert.

You are kind. What is interesting about this is that I have become ensnared in this matter because I asked questions of my government.

This may a chilling effect on freedom of the press.

All this commotion, but the central question has yet to be answered: At the time that Robert Novak's column was published, was Valerie Plame a "covert operative"?

The CIA has refused to comment on this very important point.

If she was not, then no crime has been committed and all communications between the administration and reporters is just gossip. ---Jeff Gannon

....

To: Jeff Gannon

That is simply not true, Jeff.

You are ensnared because you made reference to a government document, which appears to have been a forgery. You need to tell the Grand Jury who made you privy to that document. ---JohnGalt

To: Jeff Gannon
What was the document you referred to in the interview with Wilson? ---JohnGalt

To: JohnGalt

I disagree with your characterization of the document itself, but that aside, I maintain that I am under no obligation whatsoever to reveal my sources. That is a fundamental element of maintaining a free press. ---Jeff Gannon

11. Let's wonder why CNN continues to use Liar Cliff May? It's amazing to
see not only May out there, but all the old hacks who spewed Clinton lies for years back again being used as spokespersons for the Right Wing. All of these people have been shown to be tools for the Right Wing who lied about the Clintons...spread the Vince Foster stories all the lies. And, here they are again. That our Media Whores continue to trot these same folks out shows more about their unwillingness to report the truth than anything else.

Somehow the Cable Media seems to think that there aren't those of us who recognize these political Hacks. Where are the "NEW VOICES" in the internet media? Where are there fresh lawyers and prosecutors who worked in Democratic Administrations? Clinton was President for 8 years and Jimmy Carter for four years...but NO all we see are the lying Political "former prosecutors and lawyers and political ops" from the Repug side ....all of whom have been discredited when Ken Starr found nothing about Clinton.

Yet we have to see them out there every day whenever something unflattering, illegal or criminal comes up about the Bush Crime Family.

They take the American People for Dummies. That we don't know and they can send out the same liars to us again and we will suck it up.
Somehow, this time, I think they've overplayed their hand. With the Internet we don't need to listen to the lying liars any more. The Truth WILL OUT this time, and be KNOWN.

13. "The Big Lie" according to Larry Johnson
The misinformation being spread in the media about the Plame affair is alarming and damaging to the longterm security interests of the United States. Republicans' talking points are trying to savage Joe Wilson and, by implication, his wife, Valerie Plame as liars. That is the truly big lie.

For starters, Valerie Plame was an undercover operations officer until outed in the press by Robert Novak. Novak's column was not an isolated attack. It was in fact part of a coordinated, orchestrated smear that we now know includes at least Karl Rove.

Valerie Plame was a classmate of mine from the day she started with the CIA. I entered on duty at the CIA in September 1985. All of my classmates were undercover--in other words, we told our family and friends that we were working for other overt U.S. Government agencies. We had official cover. That means we had a black passport--i.e., a diplomatic passport. If we were caught overseas engaged in espionage activity the black passport was a get out of jail free card.

A few of my classmates, and Valerie was one of these, became a non-official cover officer. That meant she agreed to operate overseas without the protection of a diplomatic passport. If caught in that status she would have been executed.

Every single GOP hack and whore who says that is putting party ahead of their country in addition to talking out of their a-holes. They don't give a rat's ass about this country or its people.
