11. Agreed, McClellan is no Nietzsche superman, that's for sure....
....but who in the Bush Administration does resemble such a superman?

<snip>
Nietzsche's Superman
"that which must overcome itself again and again"*
by Anna Knowles

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Yes, it is Superman, but Nietzsche's Superman is not battling for truth, justice and the American way. Rather, Nietzsche's Superman (which literally translated from the original German ubermensch is Overman) is a human who has battled modern values and overcome the flaws of humanity. Nietzsche's philosophy has been associated with everything from socialism and fascism to Marilyn Manson.

Superman, according to Nietzsche has reached a state of being where he is no longer affected by "pity, suffering, tolerance of the weak, the power of the soul over the body, the belief in an afterlife, the corruption of modern values (Nietzsche's Overman: Blueprint for the Antichrist Superstar)." Superman is constantly changing and in a state of rebirth and growth. He determines what is good and what is evil, not allowing religion or society to determine these things for him. The Superman finds his happiness in this way. He uses a reason that is independent of the modern values of society or religion. He determines his own values. This creation of his own values gives him joy, and in order for the Superman to cope with a changing world, the Superman must constantly change. This constant state of change is a constant source of joy, leaving little or no room for suffering.

The Superman does not believe in an afterlife or the power of the soul over the body because he does not believe in religion and has no proof of an afterlife or a God. Therefore, he makes the most out of this life, not depending on a reward in Heaven or a punishment in Hell for what he has done on Earth. The Superman does not pity or tolerate the weak. He feels that human compassion is the greatest weakness of all because it allows the weak to restrict the growth of the strong.

In 'Thus Spake Zarathustra', Nietzsche, through Zarathustra, says "I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome . What have you done to overcome him? All beings so far have created something beyond themselves; and do you want to be the ebb of this great flood and even go back to the beasts rather than overcome man? What is the ape to man? A laughingstock or a painful embarrassment. And man shall be just that for the overman: a laughingstock or a painful embarrassment... (Towards the Ubermensch, also Course Reading: Overman)"

<more>
<link> http://personal.ecu.edu/mccartyr/great/projects/Knowles.htm

Ask KKKarl Rove if any of his actions are accountable to a Higher Power such as God and I will assure you that he would scoff at such an idea and would say with total conviction that God would approve of any action that he, Karl Rove, feels appropriate to take for the purpose which he, Karl Rove, believes he serves. For Karl Rove his actions are neither good nor evil, but by Rove's judgment alone, all are necessary. That is the Nietzsche superman.

12. Uber!!
I know that in this context superman doesnt mean the guy with the big S on his chest, but, maybe a more porcine supervillain might be more apropos for Rove? just saying... :)

13. In practical application Nietzsche's Superman = Super-villain
...all that separates them is what society or state which they serve says is good verses evil. In our case theocratic principles prevail as the higher good and any real or perceived challenge to these theocratic principles are considered evil and intolerable.

...Take any Scott McClellan press conference and replay what his responses have been and that will pretty much sum up what he'll have to say today. For all we know, the WH may be using a life-size projected holograph image of McClellan at these press conferences.:hide: :yoiks:

"I won't comment on an on-going investigation from this podium."

Q: Yes, Scott. But are you going to tell the American people whether you or anyone from the White House is conducting behind the scenes operations to surrogates regarding defending Karl Rove while making Joe Wilson's credibility and charging nepotism in the CIA? Are you or anyone else in the White House coordinating talking points away from "the podium?"

14. Over/under on how many times he says "investigation"
I count 54 in yesterday's briefing. I'll take the over.

Which brings me to my latest idea:

The Scott McClellan Drinking Game!

Everytime Scotty says, 'investigation' take a sip.
Everytime Scotty says, 'ongoing investigation' take two sips.
Everytime Scotty says, 'I've already answered that,' finish your glass.
Everytime Scotty says, 'criminal' chug a beer.
Everytime Scotty calls a reporter a Dick down a six pack.
When Scotty has to resign in shame and/or is fired for incompetence and/or is frog-marched out of the White House for his part in covering up an act of treason, go to your local bar, put your mouth under the tap and open 'er up. Or just down a keg.

Feel free to add to this...

30. He only said it twice yesterday...
He made the mistake of saying it repeatedly on Monday, and the reporters are saying it again and again.

It's like on The West Wing when Danny scolds CJ for being the first person to use "subpoena." Scotty made a mistake by using the phrase and now the reporters are repeating it back to him.

You basically have to get the page up and keep hitting your "reload" button until they are live.

Yesterday they were 15 minutes late. Be patient, it will happen.

66. ANOTHER ROVE QUESTION!
"Has Karl Rove offered his resignation?"

Ongoing investigation, I have nothing to add, etc.

68. "I WANT TO help the invesigation succeed...
...and the best way to do that is to not get into discussing the investigation from this podium. There's really nothing to add. We've exhausted this issue."

70. He is so f*cking smug...
He totally blows off the question to take a softball on Iran.

Keep trying Scotty. David, Terry et al smell blood and they aren't going to back off. They can't be ignored forever.

Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 12:39 PM by jmcon007
As you know we've talked about this and decided it best not to discuss an ongoing investigation......

No one wants to get to the bottom of this more than the president...

There again, you're asking something connected to the investigation....

You all know me and I like you guys and I'll be happy to discuss this with you when the investigation is over.....
