Gen Clark will be on Faux Thursday night (Hannity & Colmes)
I'm posting this for those who've expressed a desire to be alerted when the General will be on.

He's scheduled to be on with Hannity & Colmes tomorrow to discuss his op-ed in USA Today this week....which you can read here:

I thought I heard this somewhere.

2. If they wanted to become a real News Station....
they should give him at least a 24/7 show...and cancel all of the bullshit.

But of course, they won't!

Eat the elephant, one bite at a time!-Wes Clark

4. I wish....
It would be a lot easier to watch him on his own show rather than having to sit through watching the likes of Hannity and O'Reilly...and to have to think of Gen Clark having to sit that close to those scum....But I haven't heard anything about his own show. So far, he just shows up from time to time.

6. I don't think that would be good
he's a general, not a talk show host. He's good in his role now. I don't think a Wes Clark show would fly.

I'll be watching (on mute...) until Wes comes on.

Anyone know what the subject tonight will be? Surely, not the Rove thing. But, what else could it be?

and my first reaction on reading it was to wonder what Wes would have to say on the subject, so I was actually glad InsHannity brought it up.

18. I think that Wes was exactly right....
in his answer.....we would need to practice deterence.....

I sure don't want Nuclear war with the Chinese over Taiwan.

Loved the way Wes stated that Bush had announced a different policy ealier on, that the U.S. would protect Taiwan against China. Bush was forced to backtrack.

Clark was in charge, and showed what a true diplomat he is. Hannity showed was a wannebe fairy Chickenhawk he is. Guess it's Hannity that would like to start WWIII!

Thank God Hannity doesn't go into politics. Now, that would be scary!

20. I was talking more about how Hannity brought it up
I think that was the ambush stuff TC was talking about up thread. They usually tell guests what they are going to talk about so they have some idea and Hannity came out of the blue with his horseshit.

I think Wes handled it reasonably well, but he is usually more focused when he responds.

28. I want to watch it again on repeat, but my first impression was
that Wes knew exactly what Hannity was talking about and wasn't caught off guard in the least. And I loved the way he responded when the creep asked him what he would do if China attacked Taiwan, pointing out that Dubya had declared early on what HIS course of action would be--and then had had to retract his statement.

Anyone catch what Hannity was muttering as he went down in flames on that one? I was too dazzled by Wes's Cheshire cat grin (I LOVE the way he laughs in Hannity's face); also was trying to figure out if Hannity had used the past or present tense when he talked about Wes running for president.

Geez, Louise! Why is it always the fratboy chickenhawks who are just chomping at the bit? If it was up to Hannity, he'd nuke Beijing tonight! LOL!

Wes wouldn't allow him to put words in his mouth, and just acted bemused at his arrogance.

35. The General left him speechless!
"How would you handle this" asked Hannity, knowing there are NO "right" answers. ("We'd defend Taiwan" = "Oh, so you'd let us be hit by Chinese nukes?" vs. "We wouldn't defend Taiwan" = "Oh, so you'd just wimp out and let the Chinese do whatever they want?")

The General leaped on Hannity's remark about Chimpy, pointing out that Chimpy made a threat he had to retract. Hannity didn't seem to know that and just looked down, mumbling a dismissive, "okay."

Go, General!!!

Socalover, Clark kept talking through the music, cause he had some things to say...I don't think he necessarily hears it, via the satellite earpiece.

Wes was able to cram a lot of very interesting comments through that music....did you note the content of his comments....or were you too busy wanting to say that "he was used" or "he's been had"

What do you have to say in reference to the actual discussion that went on....as opposed to your pronouncements that Clark is a patsy? I would like to hear your views on the shit that counts.

Does substance matter to you, or is it all about the imagery that gets you going?

Guess that was his contribution to the discussion that was had on the London Bombers, China's nuclear threats to the US, and the fact that Clark is advocating that we attempt to win the war of terror via ideology vs. military force and might.

It's a pity.

A wasted post in anotherwise interesting thread.

Is speaking some truth to the red people - cutting throught the demonization. All anyone as to do is give him ten or fifteen minutes and they're impressed. My husband saw him on Bill Maher, turned to me halfway into the show and said, "Where was this guy during the Dem primary?" He's smart, smart in many ways. And comes across as very sincere.

27. Cause you called someone I respect a joke.....
And you needed to know that Wes is no fool, and Wes is not tool.

I did it cause I don't like comments made that don't add up to anything but some childish drive-by rant. DU has had plenty of threads about Wes working for Faux and even polls. The consensus earlier was that it might hurt his political career.....but since, seeing how Wes handles the punk-asses (Hannie and O'Lielly), that concensus has changed.

It is clearly understood that Wes is trying to get our message out...and doing so, all the while representin' Democrats in a fine calm, intelligent and sensical manner. He doesn't allow the Faux crowd to bait him...as he is talking to those folks out there in the pick-up trucks.

Maybe you look at it as Clark being used....but Clark doesn't give a Flying f*ck what you think. He's doing what he can to inject some sanity to those who need it the most....maybe at the peril of his political life. But you know what? The naysayers such as yourself have not stopped Clark before, and y'all won't stop him this time either. So keep on knocking Wes, and have nothing interesting to say.....while Wes is doing what most politicians would be afraid to do; having his views recorded on record while in enemy territory.

With each viewing that these Faux viewers who may be watching the channel at McDonald, the car wash, the Doctors office, or at home in a Red State...Wes understands that he is winning some of them over to a saner and more rational adult approach to foreign affairs. That can't be bad....and in fact, it can only help Democrats, especially those in Red States....who we want win in 2006...which is the only, only, only way that we can win back the house.

So you see, your comment just really didn't add anything to the mix of helping Democrats. You attempts to denigrate the only 4 star General who is a Democrat and who is doing what he can, without regard to his ego, was really just kind of one of those things....useless.

39. A concise rendition from a CCN poster....
by Phoebe (phoebe_in_sydney@yahoo.com.au) on 07/14/2005 08:01:17 PM PDT
Colmes opens the conversation with question about the Plame affair. Gen Clark says that people who put their lives at risk in a service like the CIA deserve to be protected and have their contacts protected and that's why the law exists. Crisp answer, doesn't get drawn into characters involved. Simple statement of the importance of the law and the need for it to be enforced.

Re London, General Clark says it seems like homegrown effort -- maybe one of the bombers was the mastermind, maybe the fifth person suspected to be involved was the person who supplied the bombs. Or maybe he drove the bombers somewhere.

Says he thinks it's not a tight network, rather a loose system of "franchised" attacks which perhaps get the support of a "logistician" from AQ.

Hannity tries to steer the conversation towards Taiwan and China's comments it would use nuclear weapons against the US if there was confrontation over Taiwan. Clark says US has known China has nukes for some time, says their feelings about their claim to Taiwan are well known and that the US has a policy of deliberate ambivalence (don't think that was actually the expression, but words to that effect)

Hahaha. Hannity asks Wes what he'd do if the Taiwan situation came to a head and Wes says he won't disclose what he'd do. He does point out though that Bush said he'd defend Taiwan if it came to the crunch. Hannity says "And I agree with him". And then Wes says "But he's backed down on that stance".

Returned to topic of London bombings and Wes repeats his theory that it's the ideology that has to be addressed although action can be taken against known suspects. Arrests, deportations and if it comes to shoot outs or whatever then what needs to be done, should be done. But it's more important he says for the ideology to be countered. Wants people who might've supported Osama Bin Laden in the past to come forward and condemn the suicide bombings. (I don't think he includes the US government among those who previously supported Osama :-))

Hopefully, others will have remembered the details that didn't stick in my brain.

No more time to talk matters of international significance, must rush back to the Aruba situation...

It's clear the interviews with Wes are now Colmes's territory rather than Insanity's. But of course Insanity has to jump in and try to play ambush at some point. I think Wes saw him off rather nicely -- once again.

I don't have cable but I talked to my mom (who is my Clark on Faux critic)this morning. Usually when I talk to her about his appearances she's just upset with the way that the hosts treat the General but in talking about last night she said she thinks Hannity is getting really disgusted because he cannot draw Clark into a fight, no matter how hard he tries. She also said Gen Clark looks like he's enjoying himself immensely in these exchanges and she's thinking that Hannity is none too happy that Faux hired Wes and now he has to deal with him on a regular basis. It was a bit of a turning point in the way she's viewing these exchanges. I guess Wes was looking like he really enjoyed himself last night and Hannity was looking otherwise....hehe

54. The Hannity-Clark History is a checkered one... LOL!
This was brought up on another blog last night, so I can't take credit for remembering it, but it made me laugh when I did....

Do any of you remember when, during the primaries, Wes was on Hannity & Colmes, and he made a derogutory remark about Bush having been a cheerleader in college, and Hannity went ballistic, and was screaming, "ARE YOU INSULTING MALE CHEERLEADERS? IS THAT WHAT I'M HEARING? I WANT YOU TO LOOK INTO THAT CAMERA, GENERAL CLARK, AND APOLOGIZE TO MALE CHEERLEADERS EVERYWHERE FOR THAT REMARK!!!!!" And, Wes just sat there and laughed his ass off at him? Golly... those were the days. This man is supposed to be a match for Wes? I think Murdoch just has a twisted sense of humor....

48. Sino-American Relations
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 11:37 AM by Totally Committed
This is a post from Larry's Open Thread on Wes's FOX Appearance on the CCN Blog, and is in response to Wes's appearance last night on FOX, where Sean Hannity tried to bait him into saying he'd nuke China if it attacked Taiwan. Wes spoke of the need for "U.S. Policy of Ambiguity" in Sino-American relations. The poster is a recent military veteran, and a supporter of General Clark's:

Sino-American relations are one of the most complex and confusing of all foreign relationships. It requires an expert in international diplomacy to fully understand it correctly. One thing is certain and comforting, neither the US nor China ever wants to have a military conflict with each other.

The main point on controversy is political status of Taiwan. The legal question of which legal entity holds sovereignty over Taiwan is a controversial issue. Various legal claims have been made between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the supporters of Taiwanese independence over this question, with a variety of arguments advanced by all sides.

According to the CIA World Fact Book website:

"The U.S. has welcomed and encouraged the cross-Strait dialogue as a process which contributes to a reduction of tension and to an environment conducive to the eventual peaceful resolution of the outstanding differences between the two sides. The United States believes that differences between Taipei and Beijing should be resolved by the people on both sides of the Strait themselves. The U.S. has consistently stated that its abiding interest is that the process be peaceful."

This statement is an example of the careful wording that the United States has to undergo in order to avoid possibly disastrous diplomatic gaffes. A clear statement that the United States does not recognize the PRC claim to Taiwan would bring instant diplomatic retaliation from the PRC. A clear statement that the United States does recognize the PRC claim over Taiwan would risk encouraging the PRC to take military action against Taiwan, and would also be politically almost impossible, in view of the sympathy that Taiwan has in the United States. So the United States responds by refusing to be clear on anything.

There is an advantage to maintaining a policy of deliberate ambiguity. It is useful because the US has contrary foreign (Taiwanese democracy) and domestic policy (US-China business and economic ties) goals. Also, the US takes advantage of risk aversion to abet a deterrence strategy. Such a policy can be very risky as it may cause misinterpretation of a nation's intentions, leading to actions that run counter to that nation's wishes.

The Taiwan Relations Act was passed by US Congress in 1979 after the establishment of relations with the People's Republic of China and the breaking of relations between the United States and the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan by President Jimmy Carter.

The act authorizes quasi-diplomatic relations with the ROC government by establishing the American Institute in Taiwan and upholds all international obligations previously made between the ROC and U.S. prior to 1979 (with the exception of the US-ROC Mutual Defense Treaty, which was quietly allowed to expire in 1980).
The act defines the term "Taiwan" includes, as the context may require, the islands of Taiwan and the Pescadores.

The act stipulates that the United States will "consider any effort to determine the future of Taiwan by other than peaceful means, including by boycotts or embargoes, a threat to the peace and security of the Western Pacific area and of grave concern to the United States."

This act also requires the United States "to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character", and "to maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or the social or economic system, of the people on Taiwan." However, it does not necessarily require the United States to take any military action against the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the event of an attack. The Taiwan Relations Act has been used by successive U.S. administrations to justify arms sales to the ROC, despite adopting a One-China Policy, which is not exactly the same as the PRC's.
The PRC does not recognize the legitimacy of the Taiwan Relations Act as it is viewed by them as "an unwarranted intrusion by the United States into the internal affairs of China." Nonetheless, the United States, despite having "acknowledged" the PRC's position regarding Taiwan, declared that "the United States would not formally recognize Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan" as part of the Six Assurances offered to Taipei in 1982.

57. Well, I know that this poster that you quoted lives in Taiwan.....
and is a professor at a University there.

OT, I nearly laughted out loud, when Wes named the The Taiwan Relations Act to Hannity....who clearly had never heard of it (Why am I not surprised...LOL). That shut Hannity up for a nanosecond, and then he went on with some comment that sounded like Hannity would like to start WWIII if pressed just a little (the fool!)

Bottomline is that Hannity was trying for a "Gotcha", and got "Got" instead.

50. Have you ever met him?
I had the honor of shaking his hand twice during the NH primaries last year. I found him to be very intelligent, very genuine and very, dare I say it? Presidential. He could have run RINGS around Bush in the general election!

53. No but I caught all his cspan appearances
What impressed me most about him was on one of the road to to the white house shows that cspan runs and clark ran into a spanish speaking person and carried on a full conversation in spanish without cue cards. The man is amazing and I cant say enough good things about him. Plus I love the fact that he saw active combat service in this country I would love to see him run against Bill "cat killer Frist,"

59. Yes....his Daughter in Law.
She is Columbian, and is about to have another little one. She is very beautiful....and so, I'm sure that the baby, like the last one, Wes 3.0, will be very beautiful as well!

61. How does he practice his Russian?
If memory serves correctly, General Clark speaks 4 or more foreign languages. Rove is still tutoring Bush on English. :)

62. His Russian
I think I remember a story where someone who was campaigning for him witnessed him running into an old friend on the street and carrying on a complete conversation in what sounded like very fluent Russian. :)

63. Wouldn't it be nice to have a multi-lingual POTUS?
The one we have now barely gets along in English.
