Anyone want to take a stab at why this is happening?

2. because they know they are under attack
they have seen what has happened to Dan Rather, CBS, Newsweek, etc

and now with miller go to jail, right or wrong, they feel threatened by the criminals in the white house

I think it is for survival, not to protect our freedoms

3. Maybe they haven't been so bought and paid for.
Maybe they were just asleep. Did you read Fineman's article today?

7. I did. I thought it was excellent.
It sort of humanizes the press. Yes there are people behind the news and those people react just like anyone else, especially when the jackasses in the administration push them too far.

4. Maybe because both sides are actually somewhat wrong
The MSM tumbles around ineptly for ratings and money and real news has always been on back burner, so each side considers the MSM to be against them and for the other side.

Politics is not entertaining, people are just too partisan and either way they go they get blasted. Get a runaway bride though and people don't have the hangups so they can 'enjoy' the news without politics getting into it all.

8. Grand Jury Investigation
is going on and when the findings are made public they will look like complete idiots if they ignore the matter. The Grand Jury is not beholden to the administration so they know it cannot be stopped with the typical Bush tactics - it is not going away. Otherwise, they'd just wait for the administration and Congress to find a way to get rid of the issue.

GJ can get anyone they want under oath - it is the same tactic they used against Clinton - they had to get him and others under oath. This is a nightmare to the press and to the Repukes because there's nothing they can do to stop things.

even the most conservative media honchos can't ignore a grand jury investigation, or passively spout the Propaganda Minister's talking points in the face of it. I'm too cynical about the state of the American MSM and it's complicity with the current juggernaut to think they are suddenly having a collective epiphany--corporate media is an opportunistic feeder, and the "free press" is largely a fond illusion at this point. However I hope that some journalists will take this window to loosen their nooses a little. The public skewering of individual journalists has not gone unnoticed. And the loss of credibility from a segment of the population has not gone unnoticed either. Media analysts will have an interesting time delving into this period. It's not altogether obvious how the American media became so severely hog-tied--I agree with those who say it's not completely understood at this point. It's a complex web of factors. I hope that more Americans come to understand the general nature of the hijacking and the danger it represents. And I envision in this awakening that the internet will be credited as the place where the ideals of a "free press" were resurrected from the ashes. Remains to be seen.

Bushco knight in jeopardy. Makes all the diff, esp since the prez said he'd fire anyone who leaked. KKKarl, who has so arrogantly played journalists for empty mouthpieces and applied chokeholds wherever necessary, is overdue for payback. Right now the pit bull has a muzzle on and the lapdogs are being allowed inside the yard to sniff around for a JUICY bone--a political story that may rival Monicagate and get the ratings up.

Since Day One, there has been enough dirt on and around bu$hler to fill a new TV network 24/7. Yet it has all been gleefully ignored by the CorpoMedia.

In news-parlance, the Downing Street Minutes are a much sexier story than Rover blowing the cover of a CIA operative--but DSM was dismissed as opposed to being covered.

Perhaps the CM is nibbling Rove to death (like David Ogilvie's ducks) because of a grudge that we know little about. It may be that Rove has been sent out to fall on his sword as yet another misdirection by the Regime--to deflect attention away from something much bigger and much nastier.

Whatever the reason for this sudden, apparent re-awakening by the Whore Media, I am still not impressed. The CM owes me EIGHT YEARS of non-stop bu$h-hounding, doubting, second-guessing, raised eyebrows and Panels of Experts telling me how bu$hler's actions are a Grave Constitutional Crisis (IOW, the way they treated Bill Clinton) before I will believe that they are back on the "job."

about Iraq. It's that simple. They are still Bush's whores.
