Asking for Rove to be fired is a waste of a good opportunity
The real gold is getting a congressional investigation. We don't need to ask for Rove to be fired. We need to ask, "What did the President know and when did he know it?" An investigation into anything will uncover the evidence to bring down Bush.

Rove getting fired? Who gives a crap. Make the Republicans in Congress explain why they won't investigate. Then it becomes an issue in the congressional elections next year.

1. Chimpy will NEVER fire Rove
Asking for his firing is only meant to drag Chimp into the associative web.

8. What Goldmund says!
President Stupid will never fire him because that would show weakness and capitulation toward your adversary. Besides - Rove knows where the bodies are buried.

21. Rove will resign before he gets fired
His "loyalty" to Bush is too great and if he thinks it's going to point to Bush, he'll get out as a sacrificial lamb. Unfortunately, he'll still be running strategeries...just from a remote location and with no oversight.

9. Its already his top advisor.
You don't need to associate them any more closely. And if Bush does fire Rove it will only him to wash his hands of it. Kerry is suggesting the perfect way out.

16. Joe Barcalounger doesn't know Karl Rove from Karlton the Doorman
At least he didn't until people started calling for Rove to be fired, anyway.

17. If that's true then
its another argument for putting the attention on Bush rather than someone people don't know or care about. If people don't know who Rove is anyway then they aren't going to give a shit.

3. Yes -- obstruction of justice
abuse of power, etc., etc., etc. An investigation could prove that Rove has done wrong -- and the fact the administration won't fire him will make them look even more abusive of that power.

They don't need to sit back and let chips fall. They need to call for hearings and a special prosecutor now. Republicans would have done that in unison last week.

12. Dude, there's been a special prosecutor investigating this for 2 years now
Patrick Fitzgerald.

He's the one dropping the chips, and we should let them fall where they may. He knows what the hell he's doing. Let him finish his job.

Because his term is coming up. Do you really think Bush will nominate him again? Congressional hearings are public.

20. Isn't that a problem?
Don't we need someone who can investigate all the connected crimes that might be uncovered and go beyond just investigating the Plame issue? Watergate revealed mountains of abuse of power because they took the time and had the authority to look beyond the break in at a hotel.

22. He's a special prosecutor for as long as necessary
but pretty much, his job is finished when the grand jury finishes. He'll be on hand for the prosecution if indictments are handed down.

It's his job as U.S. Attorney for the Northern Illinois district that's up October 24, 2005.

11. Exactly. It allows Bush to wash his hands
and pretend that he has dealt with the problem. Why is Kerry telling Bush how to get out of this instead of calling for the investigation we need?

7. One doesn't exclude the other. Hyping the firing puts Bush's character
and integrity on the line. It also gains media attention and a SIMPLE, easy to grasp meme...Rove should be fired.

Noone believes Bush would fire Rove because Bush never admits to any crime or mistakes...ever.

14. The message should be: Bush should be fired.
The attention should be on the man who gives Rove his orders instead of pretending that Rove is the one ultimately responsible.

23. In this particular case it directly IS Rove, though. Bush is smeared by
the closeness because their closeness has been concretely established.

25. "Asking" for it isn't a waste - him actually being fired is.
Yes, he needs to stay exactly where he is, so that "asking for Rove to be fired" reaches a fever pitch - among Dems, Independents, and the general population. That's when we'll get the investigation.

NGU.

27. Let Me Spell It Out For You - Bush PROMISED to Fire Whoever Leaked
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 05:03 PM by emulatorloo
when this all began.

When Dems remind people of this, they are showing that BUSH IS NOT A MAN OF HIS WORD. Despite his lovely Karen Hughes Crafted Persona.

That Bush does not care the law was broken.

That Bush only cares about his precious Karl Rove.

Calls on Bush to fire Rove are CALLS ON BUSH TO BE ACCOUNTABLE AND DO THE RIGHT THING.

Which Bush will not do.

28. Let me spell this out for you
You can't be impeached for breaking a promise. You can be impeached for crimes resulting from an investigation. People already know Bush is a liar. Proving it again is nothing more than scoring a few rhetorical points.

29. I think they know this, but you have to demand he be fired.
Nothing wrong with a little righteous indignation.

If you don't ask for it, it won't highlight just how full of shit President Bush was when he said he would fire the leaker.
