Who is Miller protecting? It's not Rove! Someone else on the WHIG
The anonymous sources of information are attributed to TWO senior Administration officials. According to Wilson's interview with Raw story, there are a list of people on the White House Iraq Group. (http://www.rawstory.com)

Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Andrew Card, Mary Matlin, Karen Hughes and James Wilkinson, plus he suggests that Scooter in the context of his NSA status, would have very high level clearances.

Rove may be stepping forward but it might just be a diversion or damage control for a bigger fish like Scooter. Who knows what might get uncovered in connection with the war, the Memo's etc.

3. It has to be someone else
If Rove were Miller's source, why would she go to jail to protect him when he's already being implicated in the whole ordeal? I definitely think she's protecting a much bigger fish than Rove, and to me, all signs point to Cheney.

18. Especially if it's looking more and more like scooter libby was the
second source. There's even a report now, which, if true, flat-out names libby as that source.

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0507/S00227.htm

And in the best tradition of "where there's smoke, there's fire," where there's libby, there's cheney. libby, after all, is cheney's right-hand man. Wonder who will fall on his sword first for the good of his party/president/future employment prospects with the Carlyle Group-American Enterprise Institute-Pox "news"?

At least "two high administrative officials." Let's do the numbers:
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 04:42 PM by skip fox
We know there were 6 calls because 6 contacts were made (Miller, Cooper, Novak among them). We know 3 contacts confirmed their stories with another "high administration official."

Therefore

1.) 1 man (named Rove by Cooper) made all 6 calls (which reduces the contention of "unknowingly" providing Plame's identity laughable). But he would have had to make sure that there were a few other "high administration officials" ready and willing to confirm his story, which strongly suggests coordination. Did Rove mastermind this portion before "unknowingly" releasing Plame's identity 6 times? Was this coordination "unknowing" as well? What does "knowing" mean? Repeated deliberate acts and coordinating with others for future support suggest a strong and clear intentions. It has knowledgeable design written all over it.

or,

2.) more than 1 person (Rove and at least one other) made the 6 calls. (The fact that one source released Cooper from his agreement of confidentiality but one source did not release Miller suggest at least 2 sources.) Rove would have more to coordinate! To establish guidelines like: No source should call another's contact, Pitch the information off hand, not as the main subject, Make the contact think the source is trying to do him or her a favor ("Don't go too far out on this Wilson thing, I don't want you burnt."), etc. AND Rove would have had to field a group of officials to support the sources stories.

I say Rove coordinated because it is obvious he did so since anyone in the administration in possession of the Plame-Wilson-CIA link would have gone straight to the world master of deceitful politics, and now we know Rove was at least one of the leakers.

So, in the first case we have at least 2 indictments for Rove (exposing and conspiring to expose) and (perhaps) 1 or more indictments for others (confirming and condoning the exposure while furthering it).

But in the second case we have at least 2 for Rove (same as above, but more evidence of conspiracy) and 1 or more clearcut indictments for others (both leakers and confirmers for exposure).

And then we haven't even begun to ask the question of how Rove got the information. (Doesn't leaking the information to him also constitute a crime?) Did Plame give information to officials as one report suggested? Why did Ashbery recluse himself? Did Rove have the proper clearance prior to becoming Deputy Chief of Staff to have seen the material? Or were other federal laws broken to the effect that classified information was used for political purposes? Etc.

I think the great thing we have going for us on this case is Patrick Fitzgerald. By all accounts a fine prosecutor.

which would be an illegal domestic propaganda us of the CIA. She protects herself and her operation. With the added knowledge that the agency's 'family jewels' are once again protected.

No wonder Bob Woodward is promoting her. Check into how Woodwards' own military intelligence background played into Watergate with (now Senator) Robert F. Bennett

6. That would be nice, but I doubt it
That fuckwad probably can't even spell CIA, much less know who's working for that agency. But if it were true and it came to light, I'm sure he would take a Nixonesque resignation over impeachment, just to later get a pardon from his equally corrupt VP-turned-president.

7. Got an email last night that had a Greg Palast story
Palast's claim (remember he is incredibly accurate and insightful) is that Miller is protescting NO ONE but her own access to power. That were she to sing she would no longer have the access that has given her such incredible stories over the past few years. That's a story I can believe.

17. You may be on to something...
I dug up this old article regarding your alternative explanation. There may be more than one reason for her refusal to name her source.

"...Chicago U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who is also acting as a special prosecutor in the CIA leak probe, informed the Times by letter last week that his office has subpoenaed telephone company records. The move is part of an effort to determine whether anyone in the government told Times reporters of planned federal asset seizures in December 2001 at the offices of an Islamic charity suspected of providing funding to al Qaeda, according to several sources familiar with the case.
The FBI believes that a call from a reporter to a representative of the charity, the Illinois-based Global Relief Foundation, may have led to the destruction of documents there the night before the government's raid, according to findings by the Sept. 11 commission.

The subpoena seeks the phone records of two Times reporters, Philip Shenon and Judith Miller, according to the sources. Officials at the Times and in Fitzgerald's office refused to comment..."

13. She's protecting her own ass, silly
She's up to her eyeballs in AIPAC/Spy, WMD, CIA black ops crap.

If she took the fifth in the grand jury, that would be 'it' for her.

She's claiming to be refusing to testify using 'confidential source' as the reason because it gives her an 'honorable' out.

She's taking the fucking fifth and hiding behind a principle that does not apply in her case.

She is filth, a traitor, a black ops, PNAC fuckwad and needs to STAY in jail.

15. Some interesting speculation pointing possibly at Bolton..

I speculated on Saturday that Judith Miller may have given Plame's name to someone in the Orwell Bush administration, but where did she get it in the first place? Matt Cooper's claim that he mentioned Plame to Lewis Libby, not the other way around, raises the same question.

Now you know a possible reason why prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald still wants Miller and Cooper jailed -- if the Plame leak was laundered through reporters in some fashion, he needs to hear from them about where they got the dirty clothes.

But maybe there's another angle Fitzgerald can check into while Matt and Judy are cooling their heels in the big house. A few days ago, Digby noted the potential for John Bolton to be involved in all this. Digging a little more into that theory, I found this post on Bolton-Bashing Central The Washington Note, quoting a Washington Post story from mid-April:

. . . testimony gathered by the Senate panel in preparation for Bolton's confirmation hearings has also detailed a private channel to the CIA and how he sought to stifle career analysts from voicing dissent about the intelligence he was receiving. Bolton's chief of staff, Frederick Fleitz, is on loan to Bolton from the CIA's Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation and Arms Control Center, known as WINPAC. Fleitz told Senate staff members during an April 7 interview that he goes back to the agency's headquarters from time to time and reports to supervisors there and to Bolton.

that's from the middle of the story. The rest is at: http://www.needlenose.com/node/view/1600

Never mind the jailed reporter. I think it goes beyond Rove, he was part of it but I think Rove is just a diversion. The person inside the CIA who spilled the beans to Rove and blew the cover of the CIA front company Valerie used (Brewster Jennings & Assoc. ) basically put the world's WMD monitoring program out of business, along with everyone involved. (Are we safer?...nevermind that) It seems we are just at the tip of the iceberg, this could be HUGE! According to Washington Post, WH is convinced that heads will roll!

Both have been curiously silent during this Rove debacle. And, Judith Miller is not in jail on the whim of the Prosecutor, she knows something HUGE, and he knows she does.
