We gotta do a better job of posting International Newspapers in LBN...
After Kephra passed on others did try to keep the "international news" in LBN going. Kudo's to NNN0LHI and some others who have tried to keep up with Kef's prodigious postings.

I could do better, myself trying to find "Asia Times," "Guardian," "London Times" and all other articles about what's going on out there offshore. But, can't we do better?

Or, is there little interest these days because most of us know already how to read what we "need to know?" What about our "newbies" though, who might need a helping hand. I'd like to think that DU Newbies these days already are sophisticated enough to find International News on their own...but what about the "Summer" folks..who don't?

1. Jaysus Christ! Did all of you just fall off the "Turnip Truck?"
No one has an opinion one way or the other about "International News" demise on Democratic Underground? :scared:

Am I on some Freeper site here?

2. Pitiful DU Poster Koko01....keeps hyping her post...and no one cares...
Maybe I should have posted in the "Lounge" or maybe no one here remembers how we came to DU for "International News" and news of "ALL STRIPES and Colors" and that's what made us so interesting that over 70,000 folks have signed up to read our "stuff."

Nothing to see here...move along...down to the archives...and I've posted a "pity post" and who cares.. :-(

3. I care
I just don't know what I can do about it. If I ever try to post anything, someone has done it already. I'm not on DU every day (except right now because it is summer).

I agree with you about the need for more international viewpoints.

Could you put up a list of reputable news sources and ask DUers to take one or two to monitor daily, posting articles of note? Heck, I can even monitor one news source a day (I think).

You could call it the DU News Corps or something like that.

What do you think?

4. You're right.
I think the reason a lot of people shy away from posting in LBN is that it has so many rules. Now, those rules are important, and I'm not saying that we need to change or get rid of any of them, but nobody likes seeing their thread locked because there was another thread on the same topic five pages back; sometimes I'll even do a search to make sure the subject hasn't been posted, and I still end up posting a dupe. I don't feel insulted or anything, I just feel that I'm being a burden on the mods instead of a help, so I tend to read LBN, and leave the posting to the experts. But your advice is good, and I will try to ferret out useful stories from around the world and post them from time to time. If each of us just devotes a little time and effort to finding diverse and unusual news stories, we could have a really beautiful thing in there.

5. You're doing good. We do need those posts even though most
but not all know how to find them. Trouble is...we got lazy and it's so nice to have them right here...in our face. Plus we get so interested in reading posts we forget to go looking. I have a list to check out...but I never use it anymore. Thanks to all your effort and work.
