GOP Caught in "Leak" Frame
Frameshop: GOP Caught in "Leak" Frame

With so much written about Democrats being caught in GOP frames, it sure is nice for a change to see a Republican thrashing around inside a Democratic frame.

Hats off to Talking Points Memo for catching Kenny Mehlman--GOP Chairman extrordinaire--try to punch his way out of the "leak" frame (the piece is posted here):

RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, "visiting Iowa Wednesday, said senior Bush adviser Karl Rove rightly tried to steer a reporter away from a story about Iraq's nuclear intentions, but didn't illegally expose an undercover agent in doing so. ‘A leak is when you ask a reporter to write a story. He was discouraging a reporter from writing a false story,’ Mehlman…told The Des Moines Register during a trip to Iowa." Mehlman "said that Rove was complying with investigators and that Democrats who have called for the influential Bush administration adviser to resign are trying to tar Rove and the White House. ‘He has also fully cooperated with the special prosecutor,’ Mehlman added. ‘For Democrats to smear him by alleging that telling the truth about a false story -- not anyone has said he told her name or what she did -- in my judgment is inappropriate.’"

Everyone in the Democratic message network can stand up and take a bow: The Chairman of the GOP is officially trapped in the "leak" frame.

(applause)

If no crime was committed, someone must have forgotten to tell Fitzgerald (a Republican) and the CIA who asked for the investigation. The investigation was not instigated by Dems, Dumbass.

13. Catapulting the Propaganda
This is another of the Repuke talking points...but thanks for dutifully repeating it.

Again, if no law was broken, why did the CIA ask for an investigation? Why didn't Fitzgerald shut down the investigation as soon as it was apparent there was no crime?

Nice propaganda, but endlessly repeating it doesn't work when you aren't talking to your Freeptard friends.

14. Something wrong like...
fabricating and cooking intelligence in order to mislead the public into supporting a war of choice? That's pretty wrong.

So it looks like we both agree. Bush, Cheney, Rove and all should go.

Thanks for playing.

16. And what happened with the friend of the court brief? The court
disregarded it. Curious, that. What info does the court have that is not a matter of public record? Hmn?

Sure glad you find treason perfectly acceptable -- as long as your guys perpetrate it.

Why do you hate America's national security?

Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 03:46 PM by nyhuskyfan
He said that the CIA sent him to respond to questions from Cheney's office. Big difference.

Keep drinking the kool-aid.

22. Get your facts straight, Wilson didn't say Cheney sent him. Easy to find
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 04:08 PM by Garbo 2004
since it's a matter of public record, as you like to say. Go to original sources.

And again, the court disregarded that brief because it has info that is not public record. Excised from its decision to pursue contempt of court charges against Cooper and Miller. Read up on that too while you're at it.

BTW, for anyone interested, here's the pdf of the Appeals Court decision. Judge Tatel's opinion in particular where he concludes:

"Were the leak at issue in this case less harmful to national
security or more vital to public debate, or had the special
counsel failed to demonstrate the grand jury’s need for the
reporters’ evidence, I might have supported the motion to quash.
Because identifying appellants’ sources instead appears essential
to remedying a serious breach of public trust, I join in affirming
the district court’s orders compelling their testimony."

Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 03:51 PM by Beetwasher
You've read nothing but Roves talking points and that makes you a de facto idiot. Read what Wilson said, he never said Cheney sent him you moron. And there's no way his wife could have sent him you idiot. The CIA doesn't work like that, it's impossible. :eyes:

You're right, it's only the Repubs that offer hunger and poverty to Americans.

15. So what you're saying is
that Jeff Guckert and the verb "blows" should not be in the same sentence. Does it matter if he's the subject or the object? And what about the intransitive case? I'm just askin...
