He could do very well in the Feb 3 states. A 2nd place finish in NH will give JRE even more press, and when the guy gets press his numbers go up. If it becomes an all out battle for delegates between Kerry and Edwards, I tend to like Edwards in that matchup. He appeals in places like SC, OK, MO, VA, FL etc etc. Places needed to win delegates. It could get crazy.

I'd really be happy with any of the candidates over Bush but Edwards is my favorite and Kerry a close second. I like aspects of all of the candidates actually, but decided to make a definitive decision recently and follow more closely.

I think it is VERY important that we pick someone who is an appealing speaker in addition to being eminently well-qualified and capable. We have to win over those people who aren't very interested in politics but don't like Bush, and can be persuaded to get to the polls. And JE certainly fills that bill, and more. He is terrific.

I also heard some of Dean's stump talk before JE began and I thought he was AWESOME today in style, and was strong in substance too, especially on specific environmental proposals. Very clear about what is wrong with * on many topics and what he would do differently.

in the election if that would be the case. I'd like to be proven wrong and think Edwards could carry the nation (I'd vote for him). But the dire questions facing our democracy would go unanswered in my opinion. He could only carry the country in a general election if the average voter is completely disenchanted with bush (because he wouldn't address the voter who has security concerns and is susceptable to the bush propaganda machine on the subject).

If Edwards comes in second, he will become the man to beat. If Kerry comes in first in New Hampshire, then Kerry will become the candidate best positioned to stop Edwards from winning the nomination. But winning second place is the key for Edwards success. He must win in every southern primary, with the exceptions of Arkansas and possibly Oklahoma.

But if he doesn't get second in New Hampshire, then Edwards will not be able to defeat Clark in most of the south..or Kerry outside of it!
