Could this be how Bolton and Cheney fit into Plame story?
http://antiwar.com/justin/

..."Rove-gate" soon to be "Cheney-gate?"

Rove-gate: Who Leaked to the Leakers? This isn't about Karl Rove by Justin Raimondo
http://antiwar.com/justin/

Justin Raimondo's columns are copyrighted, so the link is listed above. He also has a wealth of links within his article/story.

He follows the leak from Bolton to Wurmser and Hannah, to Cheney (and/or Libby) to Rove. Could this explain Bolton's failure to get the UN postion? Also, he links some of the same players to the Franklin/AIPAC espionage scandal. Wurmer and Hannah, Bolton's assistants who work in Cheney's office (according to Juan Cole as "part of a 13-man vice presidential advisory team--sort of a veep NSC , which helps underpin Cheney's dominance in the US foreign policy area.") Hannah and Libby are responsible for the crude Niger uranium forgery document.

He quotes this from Wilson's interview with Salon, which supports his article.

Quote:
Joe Conason in Salon:

Wilson:"Gleaned from all those crosscurrents of information, the most plausible scenario, and the one that I've heard most frequently from different sources, has been that there was a meeting in the middle of March 2003, chaired by either Scooter Libby or the vice president – but more frequently I've heard chaired by Scooter – at which a decision was made to get a 'work-up' on me. That meant getting as much information about me as they could: about my past, about my life, about my family. This, in and of itself, is abominable. Then that information was passed at the appropriate time to the White House Communications Office, and at some point a decision was made to go ahead and start to smear me, after my opinion piece appeared in the New York Times."

"Salon: You mention two other names: John Hannah, who works in the Office of the Vice President, and David Wurmser, who is a special assistant to John Bolton, the undersecretary of state for arms control and national security. Last Wednesday, their names both appeared on a chart that accompanied an article in the New York Times about the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans and the war cabal within the Bush administration. Did these people run an intelligence operation against you?"

"Wilson: I don't know if it's the same unit, but it's very clear, from what I've heard, that the meeting in March 2003 led to an intelligence operation against my family and me. That's what a work-up is – to try to find everything you can about an American citizen."

It reads like a le Carre spy novel! And I feel like I just watched the trailer for the movie. Could this be getting close to what the true story is, or will we really ever know?

2. Well,
since the door has been opened here, I will voice my suspicions that this effort is aimed at people other than those at the very top.

After all, to portray the ugliness as being something that stems from a cabal surrounding, but not including, the resident (and his personal flunkies) is a way of limiting damage (and hopefully changing the course of certain events, like the "war" in Iraq).

Of course, this is complete bullshit. If not (legally) guilty in this small arena, those at the very top are complicit in these crimes -- and guilty of many other offenses.

3. unfortunately
This was all spun off as "Fire Rove" instead of "arrest BushCo," which is what really needs to go on.

4. Personally,
my goals are rather broader than that. But "arrest BushCo" would be a useful point along the way.

Expect many attempts at damage control.

8. How about:
"democracy, meritocracy and egalitarianism*" for a start, deferring ("until", quite possibly, never -- that is, personally) making a better definition of a liberal democracy... and of any tangible, useful, practical milestones along the way.

egalitarianism*: The doctrine of equal political, economic, social, and civil rights for all people (citizens).

9. Let's not forget Powell showing Bush the Wilson file
On AF1 on the way to Africa. This decision could have been made by Bush and Cheney over the telephone from AF1 (hence the subpoena for AF1 telephone records), then executed by Cheney/Rove/Scooter. That would also explain the 8 redacted pages that shocked two judges.

10. So is this just pure conjecture, or is there any validity to it?
I found out this a.m. that the mods had locked this thread, as they consider antiwar.com to be an unreliable source. I really had no idea when I originally posted the link to the op-ed piece here that this was the case. I appreciate Domitan and the others on this thread below, who questioned whether my thread should be locked:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1930568

And I appreciate Moderator EarlG for unlocking it. I have no idea whether antiwar.com is a credible source or not. It's not a site I regularly draw from, although I have read pieces from that site before, and don't recall anything objectionable. I posted it merely to offer discussion as to whether the author's "connect-the-dots" theory was plausible, as I trust there are folks here at DU who know a great deal more than I regarding the Plame/Rove/Wilson story.
