GOP Protection of the TELCO Lobby

In the midst of our collective glee of the great fall of evil Karl, we might tend to overlook other important issues.

Basically, a former SBC employee who is now in the Texas legislature wants to make certain that municipalities are blocked from providing low cost internet connections to their citizens.

How the GOP can justify this regulation and intervention when they preach "hands-off" government all over the state is fuzzy and illogical at best. To this Texas native, it seems like the wolf is guarding the hen-house.

At risk, the power of these local governments should remain in their own hands - not those of the highest bidder. Second, if some little town in West Texas can offer cheap internet to all school age kids - what a boost to education! Finally, if they get the power - do they then start to control the content?

Let's not let the evil one keep us distracted with the saga of Karl baby - and miss the evil they are doing in plain sight.
