what about rove's call to chris matthews?

thursday on blitzer's show wilson said rove called chris matthews and told him that plame was fair game. why haven't we heard more about that? it shows he was at least part of a conspiracy.

We have heard a lot about it; but you source it and it's Wilson's saying Matthews' quoting Rove's saying she's fair game.

Did Wilson paraphrase Matthews? Did Matthews paraphrase Rove?

If a repub says a reporter says Dean said something, our response is ...?

When Wilson's quoted as saying Matthews quoted Rove, it's hearsay by any definition, unless you can determine that somehow each of them really did quote the person accurately. If Matthews quoted Rove directly, I'd be less cautious. (Besides, the way Wilson phrased it doesn't even entail it was an actual quote.)

That Matthews was paraphrasing what Rove was saying. It was probably like "it is appropriate that her name be brought up since she attended the meeting that sent her husband on the mission." Anyway, you can rest assured that "fair game" was not the exact wording that the grand jury has from Matthews. This is totally a guess on my part.

but i don't think there was any paraphrasing. wilson was adament rove said his wife was "fair game".

8. Wilson didn't hear Rove say it.

He may be adamant, but he's relying on Matthews' characterization, and on believing that Matthews was accurate, and that he understood Matthews correctly. "Adamant" does not entire "correct." Hence my characterization of it as hearsay.

If Wilson was party to the conversation between Matthews and Rove, that's one thing. But then I'd expect him to have said so.

mathews knows what rove said. therefore mathews can be called to testify at grand jury as to contents of conversation, he heard it firsthand and that is not hearsay.
