Scottie, you lying little WEASEL! (David Corn Nation article)
(Scott McClellan) claimed that special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald had "expressed a preference to us" that the White House not comment on the matter. (I later called Fitzgerald's office and asked it to confirm whether Fitzgerald had made such a request. A spokeswoman for Fitzgerald said he would not have any comment regarding any part of the investigation. "Not even to back up what the White House said?" I asked. "No," she replied.)

2. Well, ya see, Scotty-Mouth just interpreted it as a preference.
Fitzgerald probably said, "Doesn't matter," and Scotty-Mouth is so used to hearing what he wants to hear, he interpreted it as "We would prefer that you not comment."

I mean, it's just an understandable common mistake, right? :eyes:

3. Finally, some journalism! Why didn't all reporters verify this claim?

4. Perhaps they did.
Claim's not verified; claim's not disproven.

Ambiguity, the translator's, and spokesperson's, friend.
