After reading about the DUer who lost his contract job--due to someone reading his DU posts and making up lies about him---I decided to Google my DU name.

I'm wasn't amused by what I found.

No, I don't think the NSA has any professional interest in what we have to say. That would be the FBI's job. Is there some Bureau lurking going on - wouldn't be really surprised. There may be one or two people here out of 70,000 odd who are being monitored pursuant to Title III or FISA warrants.

Betya there are more than a few DUers who work for various USG agencies who have security clearances and do so because they are with us, not against us. After the implications of the Plame thing settles in, bet there will be lots more.

Told the professor who was trying to recruit me out of a Sophomore journalism class that I thought the Agency and the KGB might both find my loyalty suspect.

He was a defector from Polish Intelligence, so I wasn't sure which organization he was working for. Maybe both. At the time (early '80s), neither side seemed very savory.

saying that we get our shit all wrong.

The unfortunate thing (for him) was that, when confronted with my error, I apologized and issued a correction message onto the orig. statement.

Even though his website shows the ENTIRE conversation, it is still lambasted as "liberals can't get their spin right!".

After trading a few messages back and forth, (his laced with the normal profanity expected from Right-wing "Christian" fuckheads) I signed off the one-sided intellectual debate with the promise never to darken his door (site) again.

Every now and then, I check my DU name. Made a guest appearance on lgf - didn't bother there. I also noted that a few thinking sites took note of some of my points. I haven't done more than visit them, either.

So, it was interesting. One guy attacking me because I bothered to correct my mistake (something the Righties would not do), another (lgf) saying that I was an extremist because I believed that Bush would go to extraordinary lengths to save his own ass - at the expense of far too many lives (something that seems to be getting more and more into the light these days) . . .
