"...I would talk about nonlethal torture, say, a sterilized needle underneath the nail, which would violate the Geneva Accords, but you know, countries all over the world violate the Geneva Accords..."--Alan Dershowitz, interviewed March 3, 2003 on CNN
You know, he and people of the pro-torture camp make a powerful point: other countries do it all the time. He mentioned France in Algeria. (Of course he didn't mention the 900,000 to 1,000,000+ people that France exterminated over there.) But we ARE at war and this IS a question involving deliberate breaches of national security.
Where are those pro-torture people on the right now? Don't they want to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible so our national security can be assured?
I find the use of torture totally repulsive and inimical to the idea of civilization, but I am deeply puzzled by the silence of those voices who seemed so enamored of it just 12, 18, or 24 months ago. They seemed to have the upper hand then, but now they've slinked away.
