Duke Sails Off Into the Sunset
First GOP Victim of the Culture of Corruption

Yesterday, amid a swirl of allegations surrounding his ethically
questionable ties to a defense contractor, longtime Republican
Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-CA) announced that he will not
seek re-election. As the New York Times noted, "The decision by Mr.
Cunningham, a conservative and former Navy pilot active on military and
intelligence issues, makes him the first lawmaker to be claimed by a
swirl of ethics accusations that have engulfed the House this year."

"Public backlash against the Republican Party's culture of corruption
has claimed its' first victim," said Democratic National Committee
Chairman Howard Dean. "Duke Cunningham should be a cautionary tale for
the other Republicans in Washington who have been seduced by this
culture of corruption. Clean up your act or go home."

Two weeks ago, Rep. Cunningham was one of six GOP House members whose
ethically questionable activities were highlighted in print ads in their
local newspapers as part of a joint DNC-DCCC project.

2. Sorry, he doesn't get to sail off into the sunset
There is the matter of bribery charges which are sure to be forthcoming. Sail off to a federal correctional facility, perhaps.

4. North San Diego County
Please, a moment of respect for a great fighter pilot.

Duke, you should have just done the lecture circuit. Getting into politics was your downfall.

5. Power corrupts..
I used to live in North County, San Diego..all over the place..from Encinitas to Carlsbad..worked in Solana Beach and Cardiff-By-The-Sea.

That's such a beautiful part of the world.

6. Yes.
And now that I think about it, Hermann Goering was a great fighter pilot too.
(and should have stayed out of politics)

7. And some places south along the coast as well
From what I have heard, his office staff is very nice. A friend of mine on the coast had a problem with some red tape and his staff was very helpful. But the guy himself has always had that slimy factor going. And, of course, he did call himself "Duke". We had a dog named Duke once, but I digress....

ads yet, but this link "to republicans speaking out" is very interesting!

<<snippett>>

"I switched to Republican over 30 years ago, but now feel increasingly betrayed by and ashamed of the power-crazy dishonesty and the distorted values of the current leadership of the GOP. Tom DeLay does not speak or stand for most American Republicans. Neither does Karl Rove, who should be fired and severely punished if indications are correct. Can we trust you, Mr. President? Please give us the real, open truth." - Jeb E., Palo Alto, CA
"I am a registered and disappointed Republican. Don't make this situation worse - 'fess up and fix the problem." Karen H., Fort Collins, CO

"I am a registered Republican and want this current administration to admit the fault and fire Rove now! Decent Americans lose their jobs over less." Alice C., Wilmington, DE

"I vote for whoever I think will do the best job -- Democrat, Republican, Independent -- and this is the time for elected officials to do their best job: honor their word, honor their country, and honor those they govern by upholding not only the law but what is moral and right. In this case, it is to remove whoever is responsible for leaking the CIA agent's identity." Nancy O., Van Buren,AR

More republicans "speaking out"..
