Rove leak is just a small part of a bigger scandal
Great article from Christian Science Monitor

By Daniel Schorr Fri Jul 15, 4:00 AM ET

WASHINGTON - Let me remind you that the underlying issue in the Karl Rove controversy is not a leak, but a war and how America was misled into that war.

In 2002
President Bush, having decided to invade
Iraq, was casting about for a casus belli. The weapons of mass destruction theme was not yielding very much until a dubious Italian intelligence report, based partly on forged documents (it later turned out), provided reason to speculate that Iraq might be trying to buy so-called yellowcake uranium from the African country of Niger. It did not seem to matter that the
CIA advised that the Italian information was "fragmentary and lacked detail."

1. and the "company" that Valerie Plame "worked for" was about to confirm
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 11:55 PM by BrklynLiberal
the connections between Bushco, the Saudis, bin Ladin, ARAMCO and the financing of the WTC terrorists. Getting rid of so many birds with one stone was a dream come true for Rove. Outing Valerie Plame served many purposes.

6. Where did you get this information?
It is not that I doubt it, I am a true believer. It would be a huge smoking gun for me. Where was it reported that they were going to confirm this? Thanks!

4. bullying strategy, again.
I see it foremost as incidative of the Rove/Bush strategy of bullying and intimidation against critics, truthsayers, people with a different view, whistleblowers, etc. It's down to the level of college groups! A conservative student group on my campus was considering breaking away from the Repubs and identify themselves as libertarian (who at least tend to operate on principle), but they were threatened that if they did, they'd be blacklisted. Everybody or the leaders? In Washington or a wider area? I don't know. Maybe they were paranoid to believe that Republican Forces had the means and the spite to deliberately interfere with their post-graduation lives, but it is telling that they believed it and stayed on. I don't recall details of the one example that did get a blurb in the press where a congressman voted against the GOP and was told that his son, also in government, was "so dead." The 'story' of the Plame leak should be that Chief Thug Karl has been using threats to opponents' families as a coercive tool since day one.

5. Time to bring Bob Novak into court and see what he knows
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 12:28 AM by G2099
"Three days later, Bob Novak's column appeared giving Wilson's wife's name, Valerie Plame, and the fact she was an undercover CIA officer.

Mr. Novak has yet to say, in public, whether Mr. Rove was his source."
