"Apology for Slavery?" Do you agree or disagree that the government should issue an official apology for slavery and the events that occured after.

1. I almost feel sorry for the moderator...
But then I think about some of the political statements that he has monitored and think "no way". He deserves to listen to this.

2. you can hear it any morning on c-span
they let the raving racists go on and on about "those people" all of the time. They should be cut off immediately just as if they were using the f word.

That question sucks and deserves an email to c-span.

:grr:

3. A little late, don't you think ?
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 06:38 AM by DIKB
It's a difficult thing to talk about. Mainly because people like to think that racism is dead and buried, and want to move on. Addressing the fact that it still exists, that slavery was an act condoned by religion, and perpetuated by greed and a sense of racial superiority is something that most people are hesitant to approach.

My thinking is, how do you apologize for something when so little has changed ? The majority of people still believe in the faiths that justified slavery, people turn a blind eye to current racist tendencies. They pretend things are in the past, and immediately move on to how THEY are victims of "reverse racism"

Any words of mine would be pretty empty, so I say "Let my actions speak for themselves. The sins of my forefathers are not my own. I am a liberal who seeks equality for all, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. I have shed the offensive beliefs of my forefathers, and seek to be judged in the eyes of my fellow man by the actions I take today."

4. Discussion on CSPAN will reveal that high % of **WACKJOBS** call CSPAN
But didn't we know that already?

It is pretty clear to me that callers to CSPAN aren't a representative sample of Americans.

5. I think you're right in most cases.
I know, many times, when cspan has a topic that really riles my anger, I'm tempted to call, but then I hear about how long some people have to wait on line to voice their opinion on air, and I decide it's just not worth my time & $$.

Just based on that, I suspect you only hear from radicals on both sides.

6. And don't forget the Native Americans
What brutal savagery, the "Judeo-Christian" tradition exacted upon the original citizens of this land!
